This topic is primarily here because according to the search, no one has posted a solution to such a problem, and I enjoy telling stories.
I was toying around with the font exploit a few days back and decided to hex edit the MS dash so I could actually get into it from Evox.
Lo and behold, it would give me a service error upon bootup unless it immediately started up a game. For a potentially clock related reason, I couldn't get any game to go into sleep mode for a hotswap. So the first solution that came to mind was to get a modchip, install a regular version of Evox and FTP into it in order to restore the original dash file. After 4 hours of burning myself in an attempt to solder the X2, I gave up on it.
After searching the forums for a way to unlock the Xbox, I noticed the HD tools. Unfortunately, everytime I started up the comp with the Xbox HD in place, it would state that it was locked and would ask for a password. So in desperation, I decided not to plug the HD in until I was at the command prompt. Much to my surpise, I was able to unlock the HD using hdunlock/hddisabl and restored it with the HDD driver. There were issues locking it, but after doing the "post plugin" method, I was able to do so and the Xbox has it's virginity restored.
