RX 490/Fury Pro: ¿Adelantarian GPU VEGA 10?

This means that a new card is on track, and we hope it will be not based on a Fiji GPU. Probably it will be based on a Vega GPU. So we can suppose that AMD will use the Fury brand for its next high end video cards.

Now there have been some rumors that this card could be a dual chip product but from the benchmarks, it seems like we are only looking at a single-chip solution. The card is listed with the device ID 687F:C1. AMD GPU database doesn’t list any such card and was the same case for the RX 480 prior to its release. So this could be an entirely new GPU which we haven’t seen or heard of before. Now this doesn’t mean that there won’t be any dual chip card. The possibility for that product also remain but I personally don’t think AMD will want to develop a dual chip solution based on Polaris 10. Their dual chip products are based only on high-end chips such as Fiji (Radeon Pro Duo) and Hawaii (Radeon R9 295X2).

The benchmarks clearly show the card performing next to a high-end GTX 1080. Currently, there’s no GPU from AMD that comes this close in the Polaris Radeon 400 series lineup. Also to note is that the drivers may not be ready yet which will result in even higher performance at launch. This card really looks to be top-notch and built for enthusiasts and we can’t wait to learn more about it.

According to the latest leak, Polaris architecture has not said the last word yet, as we expect two more graphics processor based on this architecture.


AMD Polaris 10 XT2 and Polaris 12

This is the output from a HEX viewer. The file is a controller for MacOS Sierra driver, which supposedly contains information about new, yet unreleased, processors. The file revealed that AMD is working on revised Polaris 10 chip, supposedly named Polaris 10 XT2 and also Polaris12, which was not a subject of any rumor so far. One of those could be the mysterious 687F device we saw just a few days ago.


As you can see Polaris 11, Polaris 10, Polaris 12, Polaris 10 XT2 are all listed separately. It means that each one of those is different in some way. What’s also interesting is the appearance of Vega 10, which suggest that Vega10 is being worked on simultaneously.

One of the theories that I have is that AMD would use Vega 10 as a new high-end part that would replace Radeon Fury series, whereas reworked, redesigned chips aka Polaris 12 and Polaris 10 XT2 would replace Polaris 11 and 10 respectively. This means AMD would have a brand new lineup for Radeon 500 series.

Another possibility is that both of those Polaris chips are exclusive to Apple devices, but that seems unlikely.

Our information comes from multiple sources. This usually means solid grounds to consider it as a fact. However we do not know if the event is a regional thing, or how many editors were invited. More importantly, this event is not public. It’s even less public than Polaris Tech Day, which still somehow leaked onto social media. AMD is quite possibly showcasing first graphics cards equipped with VEGA graphics processor to the media. It might also be a briefing before public ZEN presentation, which is expected on December 13th. AMD could make a short demo of both.

Now this is where things get interesting. We have also learned that AMD is preparing another event for CES 2017, which might be a public launch of VEGA. In case you don’t remember, Polaris Tech Day took place 28 days before RX 400 series were released. So it makes perfect sense that both events are connected. Did you notice that CES takes place in Las VEGAs?


This is literally all know for now. What this all means is that we might be just a month away from VEGA. We will keep you updated if we learn more.

@uchi23a la RX 49o seguro funcuionara en una tarjeta madre AM3+ y podras disfrutar aun de tu FX, pero claro, todo depende de los desarrolladores del juego y la compatibilidad en las instrucciones que use X modelos de procesador.

Y todos esperamos que los ZEN sean la vuelta al mercado de alto rendimiento, sin duda alguna, de AMD y se haga la guerra de prestaciones y precios, que tanta falta hace. Aun tengo la esperanza de un APU PRO, nucleos ZEN, iGP VEGA o POLARIS y con VRAM HBM integrada.

Not just at the high end

Vega architecture will be introduced into the complete range of AMD's graphics cards. Our knowledgeable industry friends have told us that you can expect top to bottom designs based on Vega architecture arriving soon..

Last year when AMD showcased Vega on its roadmaps, many assumed that this is will be the HBM 2 card and they were right. There is an HBM 2 card based on Vega architecture that should attack Nvidia in the high-end space.

But there will also be other cards, as Vega hits other memory interfaces and not just the HBM 2. You can expect to see GDDR5 variants too. Our sources had no information if there will be GDDR5X card based on Vega architecture but it would not surprise us. Nvidia made a good product using this type of memory as it sits at the right price/performance ratio.

AMD is missing a high-end card to put some pressure on the ultra-high end and the Titan X and Geforce GTX 1080 market. From the first Doom results, it looks that the Vega high-end solution is the right card for 4K gaming at over 60 FPS at least in Doom with the Vulkan API.

Knowing Nvidia, the company named after a Roman vengence demon is not sleeping and is working on its 2017 line-up.
