Alguien ha sacado algo claro de los GOD ¿? Parece que este tío...

Estaba mirando los foros de gamesx cuando he visto un topic sobre los GOD de GC. En concreto el tío dice:

I wrote this nearly 6 months ago, probably no one was interested then so i'm reposting.

Some weeks ago I modified my dvd firmware to see how much of the gamecube "8cm min-DVD" format.
It did not take long before I was getting information out. The reason for the delay in posting
the results of my research is because there was no were to post it! I don't know of anyone else
doing GC stuff.
After modification I get several different readouts from my system. Some of this is incorrect,
i suspect there is a fake TOC in there somewhere.

data track 1 audio 509:43:34 play time
1049.00MB

Wave race miss information, real size in section below
2,147,450,880 bytes 253:45:34 (34 is the frames of a second) play time LBA 2293759 (lead out also starts here)
LBA 712880 length till next 2,293,759

track 1 was 2,293,759 blocks (509 Min, 43 Sec, 34 Frames).
lead out starts at block 2293759.

CD Serial: 11846C
1392MB, Datas 2047Mb
start 00:02:00 length 99:57
correct end 158:25:05 data (mode 1)

What was interesting was that it showed up as a mode 1 audio track, well personally I don't
mind how I read it, as long as I can get at the 2048 byte sector and rebuild an ISO9660 from
it later.

I also got some readings from another disk with 2 tracks, but that ones still a work in progress.

When ripping I was able to determine the full size of the disk when the errors changed, a subtle
difference in the MMC-3 SCSI command set
all 0x58

So to sum up the GC Disk size is 1,459,976,192 bytes total size max sector 712,879

If anyone else is working on this as well I would like to hear from you.
I'm on #ps2dev on EFNet IRC servers sometimes.

Names of the relevent GC kit, star wars dev video and some other websites for info.

DDH = Dolphin Development Hardware
NR = Nintendo Reader Debug console (Green)
NPDP = Cartridge based debug console (red)
GOD = GameCube Optical Disc
GC-R for developers beta disks (no bar code)
GC-ROM for final production disks (bar code present)

I've now modified my GC more than before. My 'cotton' swap trick method means i can hold in the lid
detecion switches from outside and swap as normal.
observing the laser mechanism with the lid open and some cotton holding the lid detect switches
down let me see where the disk was reading.

There are at 2 checks for the system setting. Once to setup the bios menus etc
but if i change my switch after bootup i can put in a JP disk and it will come up with corrupted fonts!
it will load however

I've swapped disks with a GC-R i got and not had much luck there, the system bios puts up an error msg
in japanese saying turn of the power and read the user guide as the disk is not recognised.

As soon as the disk is inserted the bar code is read, then after that sucessfully completes the disk is
loaded, with the tracks starting in the centre and working out.

waverace has the audio track streamed, the track is on the outside of the disk as you can see which area
it is accessing.

as the check is only done once if that can be faked a homebrew min-dvd-r disk could be booted.

I'm sometimes getting a discid of 02176D01 from the disks, which does not mean much to me.

I'm geting wildly variying framesizes [1 LBA (Logical Block Address) = 1 Frame]
between 72bytes -> 1,684,828,002 bytes sometimes

if anyone else out there has managed to read a disk with linux or windows you can contact me at

dd if=/dev/hdc of=/root/rip.bin bs=512 count=512 conv=noerror

or use clonecd in windows if your that way inclined.
