The cover for the next Game Informer issue has hit the net, with the December issue landing in mail boxes, it has loads of folks speculating that a teaser within may be related to the next entry into the Tomb Raider franchise.

Seen above, the tease shows a shipwreck. Now, what’s making folks think it’s a new Lara Croft game is due to two things.

One – It says “A Survivor is Born” in the ad posted in the magazine, and there’s a website up with the same name with a reveal set for the December 6 release of GI, which will be the January issue.

Two – Some concept art and information leaked last year by Fourplayercop has Lara Croft shipwrecked on a “mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan”.

Here’s the full skinny on that bit, and since the original post from Fourplayercop seems to be MIA, we’ve pulled the information below from NeoGAF:

When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strength and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island’s past. As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limited and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.

* Hunt or be Hunted: Evade, outsmart, track and kill the mysterious enemies that hunt you as prey.
* Survival Action: Brutally attack and defend yourself as you fight to survive the visceral one-on-one melee combat.
* Strategic Weapons: Gain an advantage in combat by finding an array of different melee and ranged weapons including a variety of guns and the hunter’s ultimate weapon, the bow.
* Creative Survival: React and adapt to the island by using only that which you can salvage from the environment like climbing axes, rope, and machetes that can be used to unlock new traversal and combat gameplay options.
* Free Movement: Scramble up a vertical cliff wall, sprint and leap across a huge chasm, steer mid-air to land a misdirected jump. There is no one right way to traverse, survive, and explore the harsh environment of the island.
* One Cohesive World: the diverse multi-region island is an open playground alive with creatures, weather, and natural events.
* Origin Story: This new Tomb Raider concept reboots the franchise by exploring the origin of Lara Croft’s transformation into a hardened adventurer as you unravel the story behind the island’s mysterious past.

Dos juegos más de Transformers para 2011 y 2012

Hasbro confirmed during its investor conference earlier this week a sequel to Transformers: War for Cybertron is currently in development and is set for release sometime in 2012.

Mark Blecher, SVP and General Manager of Digital Media & Gaming, said he was pleased with the response of the first title released earlier this year.

"This is the most highly-rated, critical success of any game that's had the Hasbro brand yet and we're looking forward to a sequel in 2012," Blecher stated.

It's expected San Diego-based High Moon Studios, the developer of the first game, is behind the sequel, though that information has not been confirmed.

Blecher also said the Transformers: Dark of the Moon video game will be released in 2011 to coincide with the launch of the movie. Additionally, the Transformers MMO, in development by NetDragon, is planned for launch in the West but no specific territories were mentioned.

Más indicios de Sly 4

Some fortunate individual found a teaser trailer hidden within the recently released Sly Cooper Collection that seems to suggest there will be a Sly 4 on the horizon. This isn’t the first time Sly 4 has been teased; the game was also teased in the Sucker Punch game inFamous as a movie being played at one of the theaters in the city. Hopefully this means they’re planning on getting Sly 4 out the door within the year or so since everyone can now get caught up on the series.

The next Assassin's Creed is out on Tuesday. But people already want to know about the next one — will there be one in 2011? The official reply they're getting is a cagey one, of course.

"There will be something around Assassin's," Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, the company behind the Assassin's Creed series, said today when answering the 2011 question. "That's the only thing we can say."

Guillemot gave this answer to to investors during a financial briefing call today. The investors were hounding the CEO about the future of the Assassin's Creed series, which Ubisoft executives have said they would like to make annual. There was a two year gap between the first and second Assassin's Creeds but only one year between last year's AC2 and tomorrow's Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. On the call today, the Ubi execs reiterated their "ultimate goal" to make the series yearly.

Guillemot would not commit to there being an AC3 in 2011 when asked directly, instead dodging the topic with the answer given here.

Series fans know that if there's any year that is crucial in the Assassin's Creed lore its 2012, the date the world just might end. No word on how Ubisoft is planning the franchise for that year either, but, hey, at least they wouldn't have to worry about 2013?

It’s already been confirmed by newly-Twitterfied THQ core boss Danny Bilson that Saints Row 3 and the title Guillemero Del Toro’s making for the publisher will be revealed at the event.

Yu Suzuki (creador de Shenmue): "Quiero hacer Shenmue 3"

The next Shenmue game is Shenmue City, a social game that will be released to Japan on popular social gaming services Mobagetown (for cell phones) and Yahoo! Mobage (for PCs).

But after Shenmue City, the possibility still exists for a "real" Shenmue game. Don't take our word for it. Here's what series creator Yu Suzuki had to say.

In an interview conducted by Famitsu.com following a Monday afternoon press briefing where Shenmue City saw its full unveiling, Suzuki said that he wants to make a third entry in the Shenmue series. "I want to make 3 with the same volume as in the past," said Suzuki. "There have actually been a lot of requests from fans for 3 as well. There were even petitions signed by by tens of thousands of people."

The issue appears to be that making a proper Shenmue game will take quite the investment. "Shenmue has the image of grand scale," said Suzuki. "But making something of grand scale requires appropriate preparation."

Shenmue City, which Suzuki decided to make after being exposed to Mafia Wars, may be the first step towards a proper sequel. With Shenmue City, Suzuki says that he wants to show the Shenmue world from a perspective that doesn't focus on the top level graphics and sound for which was series was originally known. If the game is a success, it could lead to additional developments.

The reason Shenmue fans want a new Shenmue so bad is that the story was never completed with Shenmue II. In the past, there were reports about the Shenmue saga spanning up to 16 chapters, but during a Q&A session at the Shenmue City press conference Suzuki said that the figure is actually 11.

Suzuki explained how these chapters are converted into game form. The scenarios are initially novelized, a process that Suzuki feels allows for a deeper depiction of the story and emotional developments. The game's script is created from the novelization.

It would be possible to finish the entire story in one game by just using highlights from the remaining chapters, Suzuki told Famitsu.com. He'd have to make decisions about such areas if given the opportunity to continue with the series.

Whether or not that happens appears to depend on the success of Shenmue City. In fact, Shenmue City itself could be home to post Shenmue II story developments. While the game in its original form will include story elements from the first Shenmue, Suzuki said that if the game takes off, updates could add other areas of the story.

Missing from all this talk of Shenmue City and Shenmue 3 was mention of possible international developments for the series. Mobagetown and Yahoo! Mobage are currently Japan-only services, so it seems that, initially at least, only Japan-speaking players will be able to make a trip back to the Shenmue world once Shenmue City service kicks off this Winter.

Hell has officially frozen over.

Ok, maybe it hasn’t frozen per se, but we’re guessing it’s a wee bit chilly down there, seeing as Blizzard’s finally acknowledged some kind of plan to test the waters for Diablo on consoles.

“We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project,” the developer wrote on its community site.

“Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.”

So nothing’s set in stone, but Blizzard’s at least actively working to expand its hack ‘n’ slash empire into your living room. Granted, at the rate it’s going with Diablo III on PC, it’ll probably be your children’s children’s living room by then. And it’ll be in space. And – if your kids’ kids are awesome – it’ll look like the inside of Serenity from Firefly. At which point no one will care about videogames anymore anyway, because come on! Did you just read the previous sentence?

The studio behind a controversial Iraq war game still hopes to bring the project to market despite it already having caused a vehement public backlash and a cancelled publishing deal.

Six Days in Fallujah, developed by US independent Atomic Games, was according to the studio an attempt to engage in serious subject matter through the medium of video games. Its subject matter was the Second Battle of Fallujah, a conflict that took place in Iraq six years ago and saw the deaths of numerous US Marines, Iraqi insurgents, and local civilians.

The announcement of the project sparked outcry for apparently trying to stir controversy at the expense of serving armed forces.

Konami dropped its publishing deal, and Atomic Games had to shed staff.

Yet the developer’s president, Peter Tamte, still believes Six Days in Fallujah can restore its image, and describes the code as an “opportunity for the world to experience the true stories”.

The most prolific puzzler of them all is coming to PS3 next month, care of Electronic Arts. Tetris, the game of simple falling blocks, is getting an extravagant makeover for its downloadable debut on PSN (which was foretold of by Sony back in February) complete with 1080p visuals and six-channel audio -- but the area that's getting the most attention is multiplayer.

This new Tetris will support competitive online play for up to six players at once, and cooperative play for two teams of two in its aptly titled Team Battle mode. In this variant of the classic's gameplay, players have the option of changing play styles on-the-fly between offense and defense -- the former sending lines to the opposition, the latter removing them from their own team's wells.

Pricing and a firm release date are forthcoming. In the meantime, check out the first screens below!

According to Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens, future games could be sold incomplete at retail, with mandatory downloadable content required to get the remainder of your newly purchased title.

“It’s not inconceivable to say that we send out a Formula One game that’s not complete,” he said.

“[M]aybe it’s got six tracks. Then they have to buy their next track, and you follow it around the world. When you turn up in Abu Dhabi you have to pay for the circuit, and whatever the changes are to the cars that are put through. That, I think, would deal with a lot of [piracy issues], and also address the pre-owned.”

By “address the pre-owned,” Cousens is obviously talking about the games industry’s increasing fears that second-hand sales are losing publishers and developers money.

The issues of piracy and used sales often go hand-in-hand. Most retailers no longer stock used PC games due to DRM issues, which lock the game to one particular user.

And both concerns raise an important question: when you purchase such a game, are you buying a product to own outright and sell on at your leisure (as with a house, or a car), or are you buying a service, and a license to use that service?

Either way, Cousens believes that the current situation – in which publishers and retailers seem to be working against each other on the matter – is destructive. Speaking in the interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the Codies boss said: “[I]t’s negative to creativity and innovation. I believe it has to be managed – there’s an element of it which is acceptable, and there’s an element that isn’t.

“If the content creators could participate in the secondary or subsequent exploitation, I think that’s fair game. I think equally the retailer then has an argument that he should participate in some of the DLC, which they ordinarily wouldn’t. By default, you manage the process.

“What I don’t buy off on is that retailers are responding to pre-owned because that’s what consumer traffic tells them. If you put the price at zero, you’ll get even more traffic, but where does that go?”

For my money, the industry’s worry about losing money to used sales misses one key point: many people flock to the second-hand market because they simply cannot afford to pay full-price for games. And there’s always the risk that eliminating second-hand sales all together could mean less players are exposed to these games, at no significant fattening of their publishers’ wallets.

Anunciado Shift 2: Unleashed

Guildford, UK – November 16, 2010 – The race to #1 heats up! Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced SHIFT 2 UNLEASHEDTM, the next entry in the blockbuster Need for Speed simulation series. The original SHIFT game was released in September 2009 and has sold through close to five million copies globally. Its success was propelled by the revolutionary true driver’s experience — a game design that was heralded by critics as more visceral, more physical and more intense than any other title in the sim category. Capturing the physicality and brutality of racing at 200mph has been the leading area of innovation by the award-winning development team at Slightly Mad Studios. SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED builds on the true drivers experience by introducing the driver’s battle, an even more authentic and primal feeling of power and speed which elevates the fundamental competitive race into a struggle for supremacy against other drivers and even the track itself. In SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED, players’ hands sweat and ache as they clutch onto the controller, their pulse races from the break-neck speeds experienced through the first-person cockpit view. Launching in Spring 2011, SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED pushes the envelope with the most authentic and intense racing experience in the genre. The world debut trailer of SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED was revealed today as bonus content for the action racing Need for Speed title, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.

“SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED is redefining immersive racing by blending the rush of tearing up the track at unbelievable speeds with the emotional experience of competitive battle,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer, SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED. “We are also working closely with real-world performance drivers to ensure that SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED captures their experience and becomes the benchmark in authentic racing action.”

SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED features an all-new rendering engine with a massive graphics overhaul that puts the player in the heart of the racing action. With an innovative helmet camera view simulating the physical experience of driving at 200mph, the thrilling experience of night racing and authentic degradation of tracks and cars, this is tomorrow’s sim for today’s adrenaline fueled racer. SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED also incorporates the next generation of Need for Speed Autolog – the groundbreaking network that connects friends for epic head-to-head races and compares player stats for the ultimate social racing competition.

Developed by the award-winning Slightly Mad Studios, SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED will be available on the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC. +1.

Assassin's Creed designer Patrice Desilets will head up THQ's new Montreal studio when it opens in Summer next year. Desilets' first project at THQ has yet to be unveiled, but a job listing for the studio suggests that it could be a shooter.

Among the four roles listed on Gamasutra, a posting for a Level Designer states that "prior experience on a FPS title is a plus," although first-person shooters aren't specifically mentioned in the other ads.

Desilets himself wrote that he hopes to reveal more of the project at E3 next year. His last project was Assassin's Creed II for Ubisoft Montreal - the sequel is out this week.

Verdad?

Last week, publisher Atari offered up its upcoming game release schedule during its quarterly financial press release. One of the games mentioned in the schedule was the previously unannounced Yar's Revenge. Today Big Download can officially reveal the first details on the title. For those of you who have a long memory this is indeed is a remake of the classic Atari sci-fi arcade game that was first released back in 1981.

This new version is the first game that's due to be released by Killspace Entertainment, a Hollywood-based studio made up of former members of Obsidian Entertainment and the now shut down Pandemic Studios. Its remake of Yar's Revenge will have a Japanese anime art style as it tells the story of a nameless Yar who was previously brainwashed by the Qotile empire. Now having broken from their control, the Yar battles back against its former masters. Look for massive aerial battles, multiple endings and local support for two player co-op.

The game is due for release in early 2011 for the PC (via digital download) as well as the Xbox 360 and PS3. Big Download will have the first interview about Yar's Revenge later today but for now you can check out the debut of the game's teaser trailer
