Letting Windows See the XBOX Drive:
What I used:
- xbox with blaster 360 & modified firmware
- Activate 0800 iso
- ImgBurn
- DVD+R Single Layer*
- sata and pc power cable
*Can be single or dual layer depending on which firmware has been flashed to the xbox dvd drive.
1) I downloaded the Activate 0800 iso (found at the time from)
http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=69.html and unpacked and burnt the resulting .iso onto a DVD+R SL disc using ImgBurn from
http://www.imgburn.com
2) With the pc and xbox off I plugged only a power cable from the pc’s psu into the xbox’s Blaster 360 power socket. I did not attach the sata cable but had one end already plugged into the internal port on the pci via chipset card with the other end hanging out, ready for use in step 5).
3) I then turned the xbox drive on via the Blaster 360’s on/off switch. Remember you should never use the official xbox power supply whilst power from your pc is connected to the Blaster 360 and vice versa!
4) I booted the pc normally.
5) Once in windows I ejected the xbox’s drive via the Blaster 360’s eject button and inserted the Activate 0800 disc I made in step 1), closed the tray and let the drive spin up for about 15 seconds (time can vary), and then ejected the tray and removed the disc.
This should set the drive into ‘0800’ mode which allows windows to see the drive; it doesn’t appear to do anything to the firmware and seems to be a short term ‘fix’ until the xbox’s dvd drive is switched off where it will revert back to non 0800 mode.
6) I then, whilst everything was still on, plugged the sata connector from my pci via chipset card into the Blaster 360’s sata port. This is known as ‘hot’ plugging / swapping as you are plugging live equipment together. This is potentially damaging to the equipment so do at your own risk!
7) Go into Windows Explorer and check to see if the drive has registered – it should appear as other drives do and also can be checked by putting in a disc.
8) As mentioned in step 5) turning off the xbox via the Blaster 360 on/off switch should set the drive back to a non 0800 state.
So I:
- Got hold of the Activate ISO and made a disc from it
- Plugged only the psu power into the blaster 360
- Turned the Blaster 360 and the PC on
- Put in the activate disc in the xbox drive, let it spin up, then removed it
- Plugged in the sata cable to the Blaster 360
- Checked that the drive registered in Windows
