Actually I am not an expert in MIPS system programming and it is not easy for me to invent some hacking code. I just can use ideas from ZoneLoader sources, unpacked HD loader and hacked BB Nav in order to run a game and replace CDVDMAN/CDVDFSV with my CDVDEMU/CEMUFSV modules. I know how to replace CDVDMAN/CDVDFSV in a HD loader style but it's only a theory.

Perhaps your own USBD driver can contribute even more improvements to the PS2SDK one, or at least serve as an equal alternative, but either way the potential of USB usage looks much better today than it did when last we heard from you.
I didn't write my own USBD module, I just created a new driver for PL-2301/PL-2302 cables. That Napalm's NPM-2301 module does not work well after IOP update. Napalm's module is suitable for use with standard homebrew software but it acts glitchy when it comes to IOP update with modern SCE's modules. I wrote the new module which is compatible with NapLink protocol. It is similar to NPM-2301 but some of syncronization code (semaphores, event flags, etc) had been optimized so there are no sudden hangs anymore. And furthermore, it is compatible with new SCE's USBD driver used by new games so one can inject the module into them to capture tty-output.
Btw, it is possible create NapLink-like software for other USB communication cables, like those with newer Prolific chips for USB 2.0. I believe, the USB<->USB cable is the best type of a communication device when it comes to developing software like HD loader.

Still, the low speed of USB on the PS2 will always be a handicap, making emulation of full speed DVD streaming impossible. For such features HDD usage is still our only option.
I thing that the main problem with the speed of PS2's USB is caused by the 36MHz IO CPU while IDE HDD (DEV9) and DVD-ROM (DEV5) devices use DMA channels to transfer a data into the IOP memory.

This includes a new usbd.irx integrated with PS2SDK, making use of any other driver superfluous, so software like uLE no longer recommends use of that old 'napalm' driver, but relies entirely on the embedded one from PS2SDK (though loading external modules is still allowed).
Another major development is the new "usbhdfsd.irx" by Herben, which completely replaces all the old USB_mass variants, giving improved compatibility to a much wider range of USB drives than any previous mass: driver could boast of. With most drives we can now even hotswap drives without restarting the software, which was unthinkable with most of the old drivers.
