I've captured the I/O between the Xbox and the DVD kit 'dongle' on first-time insertion.

I see that a 229790-byte file with an "XBEH" header gets transferred from the dongle up to the Xbox.

I assume this is the "\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\dvdkey.bin" file referred to in "xboxdash.xbe".

From my understanding of the XBEH format, it looks like the file has a certificate, with a title ID of "fffe0000". There is no "title name". There doesn't appear to be any strings (either Unicode or ASCII) in the file.

During movie playback, there is no activity between the Xbox and the dongle - other than standard USB "IN" tokens (for an 'interrupt' endpoint) which are being "NAKd" by the dongle. This means that the dongle isn't used 'actively' for DVD decryption.

The Xbox will 'notice' if you unplug the dongle, using normal USB detection of device removal, or possibly by noticing that it never gets a "NAK" packet to the "IN" token. Once it notices this, it will pause the movie until you put the dongle back in.

The "extra" wire on the Xbox controller connector (thought to be some sort of a 'clock' signal) is NOT needed by the DVD dongle (I'm playing a DVD movie right now, and the 'extra' yellow wire is not connected.

I'll continue making captures, looking at what sort of packets get sent by pressing keys like 'PLAY' on the DVD remote control. Once I have an understanding of how it all works, I'll post more info.

adios a tosssssssss
