In order to get this Thanatos, you must first complete
Stage 9: Forest to acquire the Map Selector that allows
you to replay any stage you have cleared. Also, you
must complete Stage 12: Rotarl - The Sacred Capital
"The Fallen City" to unlock the "Alternate World."
Once you have done those two things, replay Stage 8,
fighting your way to just before the end. Clear out
both side areas behind the Red and Blue Gates so that
the Gold Gate in the middle opens. But, don't go
through it just yet. Instead, defeat the Balor Danu
that appears in that room, so the gate to the south
opens. Now, run all the way back up the narrow
corridor to find a gate where some enemies like
Zeodagdas appear. Defeat all the enemies here to open
the gate. Behind it are some super cool items and a
Thanatos Chip.
Now, to keep this Thanatos Chip in your inventory, you
must complete the stage fully. This means facing and
defeating Gil Balor again. So, go back to the room
with three gates and pass through the Gold one in the
middle to face him once more. (If you choose to simply
return to the Intermission screen without beating Gil
Balor, you will lose the Thanatos Chip.)
