<1> This is the result of a hole that microsoft slipped up and let thru back in 2007. And they quickly released a new dash immediately to fix it. The JTAG exploit allowed booting that vulnerable dash once again, but the new CB provided with the 8XXX update specifically blacklists that version of the dash - which is the ONLY exploitable version.

Understand that the hypervisor isn't a big piece of code, it's very small and efficient and has very little room for any sort of security hole to slip thru undetected. After allowing one vulnerability, you can bet they doubled, trippled, their hypervisor development team to ensure it will NEVER happen again
<1> "sitting on it" is only going to make it exponentially more difficult to get an exploitable box when you finally realize your current box will never be homebrew enabled. Just get a second box for it now, rather than hunting and searching later.
