~~~~ OFFICIAL sales numbers are out- speculation is silenced.~~~~
the OFFICIAL sales numbers for the USA and Europe are now out, thanks to
http://www.NPD.com
on the news yesterday during CNN's "tech" hour it was reported Microsoft's XBOX sold between the figure of 1.8 million and 2.7 million consoles since the time of its launch. the figure was then narrowed down to one flat rate:
2, 435, 654 hardware units. Or, 2.4 million. I happened to catch the broadcast, and other viewers did as well:
http://www.xboxclubhouse.com/showth...=&threadid=6276
finally the official figures were released by
http://www.charttrack.co.uk for the United Kingdom. Approximately 200,000 consoles were sold during the slant of the second week, narrowed down to 150,000 official hardware units sold during XBOX's second week across europe, and an estimated 15% increase over the first period week. the third week sold nearly 155, 000 across europe, with major figures from germany, france and UK being a deciding factor. HALO has surpassed 1 million worldwide units, and DOA3 and Project Gotham are set to take next flight.
the official figures for japan were released up to march 31 2002, by famitsu magazine. 190,000 consoles were officially sold throughout japan up until the last day of march, marking the lowest ratio of hardware units compared to the other territories.
it is estimated that approximately 3.1 million consoles have now been sold worldwide, adding in australia's and europe's recent figures to trust data. putting well within the reachable goal of 5 million units shipped and sold by the end of june. MS still has to release figures of amount of units shipped worldwide, and should do so soon.
all speculation regarding XBOX's dismal sales worldwide can now be silenced. the place it marks third place is japan, with the lowest hardware figure. it is still strong second in all other territories.
thanks goes to NPD and charttrack.co.uk for providing official reports and the stock trust data for giving worldwide calculations.
GAMECUBE
GC's official hardware numbers:
according to
http://www.NPD.com and
http://www.famitsu.com/game , as well as CNN's global correspondent, gamecube has sold:
1.6 million units in japan over the course since launch of last year.
and in the USA:
1, 435, 628 units over the course of time since launch.
bringing the worldwide userbase to approximately: 3 million units even.
XBOX: 3.1 million units, with the USA and Europe growing quickly and japan slacking off
GCN: 3.0 million units, with Japan growing a little higher, and USA slacking off
XBOX currently leads the GCN by official trust data, with approximately 135,000 consoles. this could become a higher lead, or a shorter lead, depending if GC increases rapidly, or XBOX takes flight with new game releases.
