Hola !! Desert Strike developer confirmed
It’s true! The Mega Drive’s least political sensitive game ever is getting a revamp.
Ah, 1992. What a year.
Eurogamer seems to have confirmed yesterday’s rumours that 16-bit shooter Desert Strike is about to get a sequel/revamp. The developer is apparently EA Northwest in Warrington and not anyone in the US, as had previously been reported. Although little know the company is largely made up of people from previous EA acquisition Studio 33 – responsible for Formula One and Destruction Derby Arena.
Apparently development did start in the States but has since been restarted from scratch to be more of a Battlefield 1942 meets GTA style multi-vehicle affair. This may not sound much like the original Desert Strike, but there were certainly lots of different vehicles in sequels Jungle and Urban Strike.
If these rumours of a restart to development are true though it does make the previous estimate of a Christmas 2004 release seem unlikely. Talk yesterday of a similar revamp for the Syndicate franchise have not yet been confirmed, although that is no proof that it won’t eventually happen.
