Beez Entertainment has closed its doors?French stories suggest the distributor is no more Following the announcement that North America's Bandai Entertainment are closing their doors as a distributor to focus on licensing products and merchandise for the territory, we queried what would become of Europe's Beez Entertainment as a result of this.
Although we're still waiting for an official English statement from the company's UK operation, the news coming from France suggests that Beez Entertainment is no more, and that it closed its doors in early December.
According to reports on the Gundam France forum, following a decision made by the firm's director in November Beez Entertainment closed its doors on December 2nd after eight years of operation, shedding all of its employees while Bandai France will look after all of Beez's stock until it's exhausted. This means that no further series will be reprinted or produced, with The Girl Who Leapt Through Space's final volume noted as the company's final release. Releases of Gundam Unicorn on Blu-Ray will, as per in the US, be unaffected as these will continue to be handled centrally by Bandai Visual Japan.
Again, we still can't confirm 100% what this news means for Beez Entertainment's UK operation until we have an official statement, but it seems safe to say that this will see the end for one of the UK's more daring distributors of late, which has seen the release of subtitle only releases for series still not available in the US such as The Tatami Galaxy. It also means the end of the Anime Legends range, although again it's unclear as to whether the scheduled release of Code Geass R2 in its Anime Legends form will go ahead at this point.
We'll be sure to add more information as we receive it, so stay tuned for additional news as and when we get it.
