EXCLUSIVE: SABRE WULF ON XBOX?
Could Rare's 8-bit classic make an almighty leap onto Microsoft's powerful hardware?
15:02 UK developer Rare is looking very seriously at updating its classic Sabre Wulf franchise for release on Xbox, we can reveal.
Sabre Wulf originally released on Spectrum, C64, Amstrad and BBC Micro way back in the 80s, when Rare was known as Ultimate. As the explorer, Sabreman, you found yourself lost in a dense jungle and were required to escape to save your life. Great stuff, indeed.
So much so, that more recently Rare decided to dust off the game and revive it for GBA. But with doubts still surrounding the status of Rare's GBA development, Sabre Wulf fans would be forgiven for feeling they might be left out in the cold.
But it appears that deep within Rare's Fort Knox-style HQ, plans are afoot to fully update the franchise by bringing it onto Xbox. An insider close to Rare told us: "The developer is in fairly advanced discussions about doing a Sabre Wulf game on Xbox."
No further details are available and, with the team currently flat out working on Kameo, don't expect to hear any more any time soon, but as soon as more info is released we'll let you know. A spokesperson for Microsoft refused to comment on the matter.
