Japan (AHN) - Though U.S. and Japanese Sony PS3 fans were able to get their hands on their video game consoles on November 11 and November 17, respectively; European gamers however are still awaiting its release. It was announced that the launch in Europe would not take place until March 2007.

Since the original delay, Sony has stuck to its original story of the impending unveiling in March.

However, according to Game Spot's Emma Boyes, "once bitten, twice shy" media coverage is still second-guessing the launch date.

In an interview Sony CEO, Howard Stringer said on Games Spot's sister Website CNET, that "the European launch in April...is very important to us."

Subsequently, Europeans were not pleased with the news. "April, after all, is not March," writes Boyes.

On Thursday, a Sony spokesperson told reporters, "[President of SCEE] David Reeves has confirmed again today that we are still on course for a March release."

A spokesperson for SCEA further clarified, "In a recent interview, Sir Howard Stringer stated that the launch for the PS3 in Europe and other PAL countries is slated for April. Sir Howard meant to say the launch was set for "this Spring." The release for the PS3 in Europe and other PAL countries remains March."

On Thursday, Sony's Irish PS3 Website quoted a price for the 60GB video console at $815.

The spokesperson added that a date and pricing for the European release would be announced by next week.
