The next step of the a Dualflash PSP is done. I will begin with design the circuit board for two flashes. I hope I have the prototype finished in the first half of January 2006.
The board will hold two flash/ram chips. And it is possible to switch between the two flashes, but between the ram. The prototype will be small enough to be build in a full covered psp, but the switch between the flashes will be made in hardware. In my mind it is not nessesary to build it so small but the ram timing forces me to do that.
In the last post I told about the critical ram timing issue. But after studing the datasheets of the chip, I'm hopefull that there will be no problems with 111 MHz Ram frequency. If the PSP runs at full speed, I won't be able to say what happens.
Why Dualflash?
The original idea was to got a unbrickable psp for developers like Team Emergency Exitt and all the other ones. This can be reached in three ways:
1. Reflash the PSP like Sony does
Nobody knows how to do that. And to probe that is a lot of luck too.
2. Put the flash into a flasher
This would be result in remove the flash everytime when it's broken. And while playing around with the firmware this could happen very often.
3. The Dualflash PSP
The effort and costs will be much higher than the other ideas. But it is the method with the highest consistence.
Also it could be a nice feature for consumers to have two flashes inside a psp to have the newest firmware and one with homebrew possibilty too. But to remove and to insert flash chips is a high risk.
I still need some bricked PSPs. So if somebody have one, please contact me. I'll also would be happy about some donations, because it will be expensive to build the circuit boards.
