September 21, 2004 - We took another trademark-IGN long lunch today (Chipotle) and headed over with recently-married guy, Matt Casamassina, to check out the new games at one of the local game stores. The only reason he came into work was to return the 2004 Infiniti FX45 he had on loan.
Matt always asks for what's new. Good thing he asked today. One very energetic sales associate told us that there's a special demo disc coming our way very soon. According to the pimply-faced associate, anyone who pre-orders Halo 2 before November 9th (the game's official release date) will receive a Forza Motorsport demo disc. That wouldn't be such a big deal if the game was still slated for a November release. But the same sales associate told us immediately after that Forza isn't due out until January 5th of 2005. WTF?!?
This all comes as a big surprise. We at IGN were fully expecting Forza Motorsport to hit stores in two months. The reasons behind the push-back could be many, but we're still unsure as to what they are. Could the team need more time or did Microsoft decide that there are far too many racing games this fall?
Releasing the game after Christmas will affect year-end numbers, but it might be better for the unproven series as going up against GT4 in the holiday season might not be the best idea. Either way, we think it's a good thing. It gives us more time to "research" other games and gives the team at Microsoft more time to fine-tune an already good-looking game. We'll be back with more information hopefully sooner than later
