Hacking the 3DS Can Be a Good Thing
31. December 2012 by Colin McIsaac
It’s old news that hackers are working on cracking the 3DS. Substantial progress was made about two weeks ago, but now is when hackers really get to the interesting stuff. Hacking certainly has its cons, such as opening the door for piracy on Nintendo 3DS. But on the flip side, having control of your system means you’ve got a lot more freedom, including elimination of region-locking. If you’re willing to hack a system, you’ll soon be able to play beauties like this.

Of course, Nintendo will no doubt fight this. We already know they can brick a system over SpotPass. If you’re willing to forget about all of the 3DS’ Wi-Fi features, that’s no problem. It’s also possible hackers may one day crack the Wi-Fi card, meaning you have access to all those features without the worry for a bricked console.

What do you think? Which outweighs the other—the cons of piracy, or the ability to fairly pay for international products? Is it evenly split, or does it make no difference to you?
