While Blade206 and I were the Mag Meet Up, Blade’s radar for industry icons went off. His Spidey sense detected none other then Amy Hennig; industry legend. She is the writer of the
Uncharted franchise and the PS One classic Legacy of Kain. We talked to her for about a half and hour, and we found out some very interesting bits of information regarding the franchise. Keep in mind that I am not directly quoting her, and I’m just summarizing our conversation.
1) Naughty Dog had to cut content out of the game to fit it on a 25 gig Blu-Ray disc. At the time they didn’t think they would need more than that.
2) Uncharted 3 will more than likely be 50 gigs.3) She was unclear of the total pages of script for the cut scenes in
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. She measured with her fingers how many pages she believed it to be. I would guess the page count would be over 300 pages, which would make
Uncharted the equivalent to a novel.
4) We also talked about Tomb Raider vs.
Uncharted, which was referred to as “Dude Raider”. One of the reasons why we believe the franchise is successful is that Drake is a believable character, unlike Lara Croft. I also added in that Drake is much like John McClain from the Die Hard movies. She pointed out to me that John McClain was also a model of reference for Nathan Drake.
5) Uncharted will not be a trilogy of games, but an on-going series. In my opinion,
Uncharted’s storyline is one of the best in video games. The sequel looks like it will take that story and take it to new places. I love a good story, and it was a pleasure to meet the woman behind the game.
