So i finally got to play the DS today. Waited in line for 2 hours and finally got my hands on one.(pics included)
The hardware fully opened isnt as sleek as the psp but it was still kinda cool. Alittle kiddy but cool. Pacman was weird and pointless at the same time. you draw pacmen to eat ghosts? WTF? wario ware was cool. VERY cool actually. you use the stylus to play but all in all, its still wario ware only with a different control interface.
Metroid still looked like a psONE game. Overall the DS is a GBA with 2 screens. Its clear that the DS was supposed to be a GBASP upgrade but nintendo got trumped by sony. There are a couple problems too. For 1, kids will lose the stylus. Unless they attach it, money will be made selling stylus'. 2, the touchpad gets scratched up really bad. you figure its only been 2 days but the touch screens were already showing wear.
Ever see those ATM/debit swipe things in the market that you sign? Know what they look like after a few months? VERY worn. A portable console wont get much traffic as an ATM swipe but if these things are already showing signs of wear after 2 days, thats not good. Also as you can see in the metroid shot, teh touch screen doubles as the GAME screen. how are you gonna see anything on a scratched screen?
Overall, the DS is definately a disappointment and definately a nintendo planned gimmick to make more money on the Gameboy. Too bad sony will have stepped in before they could actually make a worthy successor to the gameboy.
