Thx so much @Calindro
Physics Editor? wouwww :O :O
But the question is... it's possible to change the Onigiri for the Hamburger, like Pal versión of the Master System Bios?

Pero la cuestión es... es posible cambiar el Onigiri por la hamburguesa, cómo la versión Pal de la Bios de Master System?

You gotta be kidding. KiddEd allows editing all tiles in the game so you can make the Onigiri look like whatever you like. ;)

Someone asked in this forum if such sprites could be edited, so I guess he will be happy to read this :)

@Calindro, do you know how to fix the button presses in the demos when the buttons are swapped?

The elements of the title screen can't be moved pixel by pixel?

And I have a question... why when I edit the Alex Kidd eating sprites in the map screen, the rom needs to be extended? My edits don't require aditional space...

Nice job you did with that program, thanks :)

Hi SieKensou,

ohh I didn't even know that was happening! I never use swapped buttons because I prefer Alex Kidd style over ugly fat plumber style. Anyways thanks for letting me know. I'll see what I can do about it.

SieKensou escribió:The elements of the title screen can't be moved pixel by pixel?

The elements of the title screen are nametables. They are arranged in tiles (blocks of 8x8 pixels). So if you want to move them pixel by pixel you need to edit the tiles directly.

SieKensou escribió:And I have a question... why when I edit the Alex Kidd eating sprites in the map screen, the rom needs to be extended? My edits don't require aditional space...

The tiles for Alex Kidd Eating are compressed. Obviously changing pixels in compressed tiles can cause their size to increase. Of course the ROM is arranged in a way that there is data right before and right after the tiles so if you change their size they can't fit into their own place anymore and need a new place to live in. Of course SEGA has arranged their data in the ROM in a way that leaves as few unused bytes as possible so you won't find a new place for the tiles in the available ROM space. So in order to apply your change to the ROM the ROM needs to be expanded to make new space for your tiles to live in.
Thanks a lot for the reply and all the explanations @Calindro

I want to change the controls because I'm doing an edit to recreate the version that comes with the BIOS. If you find a way to fix that with the demos it would be perfect and I would be very thankful :)

About the title screen I was asking because I don't know why, the black border of the images at the left are not visible and I wanted to fix that :P
I will try to "cut" that 2 images a bit to see if I can make them appear with the black border :P
EDIT: Oh... it seems it's not possible because that images shares too much tiles...

What do you want to do that for?
You're right about the bios hack. It just surpasses a check.
There's already such hack (including a patch for the original ROM to replace the Onigiri by the burger):
http://www.smspower.org/forums/10249-Al ... burgerHack

The black border of the images at the left of the screen are masked out. You can change the value at $27d from $26 to $06 to remove that mask. But that will cause the hidden sprites to show up and the horizontal scrolling in the demos will be affected by the left-most column being visible.

That patch doesn't "really" replace the Onigiri with the burger... If you apply that patch to the original rom, it converts it to the bios version with that "pass check" change... What I'm doing is editing the original game, changing the Onigiri art with the hamburger art, changing the buttons like the bios version, fixing some positions in enemies... it's almost done, I just would need to know how to fix the button presses in the demos when I apply the button swap.

I will test that change you said and I will see what happens. Thanks!

EDIT: I was thinking about the compressed art you said (like Alex Kidd eating in the map screen)... couldn't you add a check for your tool? If the new edited compressed art is bigger than the space available for that specific art, then make the rom bigger, if not, overwrite it and make it fit with $FF (or the byte they used in this game for padding)...

Yeah, sorry I didn't remember it was that way. I think he just patched bios file then created a patch from the diff between the cart version and his patched bios version.

KiddEd is a wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor. It does everything in place to provide immediate feedback.

Yeah, that is exactly what it does.

Yes, I know, just was asking, as you are its creator. I really thank you for such a great tool. You did a great job and all that effort is really appreciated. You have all my support!

@Calindro, do you know how to fix the button presses in the demos when the buttons are swapped?

I've just released an update that fixes the issue with swapped buttons in demo play. When you swap buttons now they will also be swapped in the demo play. :)

That's great!!! Thanks a lot for that update :)

Good job [oki]
I've just released an update of KiddEd.

It comes with the following changes:
  • Most importantly: The issue with the Everdrive has been solved. All hacks saved with the new version of KiddEd can be played on an Everdrive now.
  • Fixed a bug that had stopped the bonus level from working correctly after adding screens to level 3
  • A bug in the PSGlib sound engine has been fixed that could cause all sounds to be muted (thanks to Alianger for pointing it out)
  • Zoom and undo/redo have been added to the Metatileset Editor
  • The tileset selection has been removed from the Nametable Editor
  • All editors are now limited to valid tiles
  • The name of Alex during Janken Match has been added to the Text Editor (thanks to EmuBoarding for pointing this out)

Users of KiddEd will receive the update via the update system, others can check it out at:
