ROCKSTAR CUSTOM TRACKS

Rockstar have released the first version of their Custom Soundtrack Converter which will activate the "Custom Tracks" option in Liberty City Stories' audio menu.
I'll let their official description do the talking:
"Rockstar Custom Tracks [RCT] is designed to provide owners of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories a method to convert individual music tracks from commercial CDs they already own to the proper format for play in the game. RCT is designed not to work with personally created CDs or CDs containing music encoded via MP3, WMA or other compression techniques. By using RCT, you acknowledge and agree that all conversions created through RCT are solely for your private use to enhance your enjoyment of the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and may not be reproduced or distributed to others."
So basically, the program verifies that the CD you've inserted is authentic. Yes, you heard correctly - you won't be able to use Custom Tracks in Liberty City Stories unless you own a real copy of a CD of the music. So those of us who enjoy the flexibility of online stores like iTunes just aren't going to be able to use it.
I also have an extensive collection of music tracks ripped from (real) CDs already on my computer in MP3 format. Rockstar, are you saying I must go up to my loft, retrieve these CDs and copy them again?
The reasons for this are beyond me - PSP natively supports MP3 music, and while it might need a little bit of coding to get this to work in-game, it's nothing that Rockstar couldn't cope with, had they given the facility enough time to be developed. I didn't realise Rockstar had decided to put on the law enforcement cap and police the music industry for pirates. Next time, it might be best if they left that to the professionals.
Once you've spent time converting your music, you'll need a USB cable to get it onto your PSP. After that, you have the choice of radio OR custom tracks - not both. You'll have to jump to the audio menu if you'd like to switch between the two. The music made by the program also can't be used in any other way on your PSP - except maybe in future PSP games made by Rockstar, but there haven't been any announced yet.
Oh one other thing guys, this program doesn't work on Mac. So if, like me, you enjoy the visual splendour that is OS X then you've got absolutely no way of getting custom tracks into Liberty City Stories. Sorry to burst your bubble!
http://www.gtapsp.com/
