Does the studio still talk to Nintendo? Yep.

Factor 5 keeps telling us how far along their dragon riding adventure Lair is, but we still don't really know very much about the game. Hopefully, that starts changing, as Game Informer spoke with the company's co-founder and president Julian Eggebrecht at this week's D.I.C.E. summit, who revealed Lair is in the last stages of development: tweaking and optimization.

"Basically, by all definitions, pretty much everything is there. Now it's optimization and really getting the difficulty curve right and really getting everything tweaked right. All of the systems are there. All of the unlocking-everything is there. Would I want to give it to you? No, because it needs to be tweaked right. It's a 80-90%, but those last 10% are actually the hardest ones-because they're going to make the game really perfect or not so."
Eggebrecht goes on to say the reason we don't have a specific release date falls more to Sony, as they're ultimately the ones who will decide what day it drops on.

The company's a bit of a touchy subject for Nintendo fans, too, as they were such strong Nintendo supporters during the Nintendo 64 and GameCube years, but completely ditched them when the motion-centric ideas for Wii started developing internally. Eggebrecht, however, insists the break up was amicable -- they even still talk and drink together.

"For us, it was simply something where we already saw the initial direction of the Wii slightly, and at the time they hadn't really completely figured out yet the extent of the motion control and the extent of how much they would be doing with the wand and everything. So it was more about, "We're going to keep the specs for graphics and sound on the same level, and then we're going to do something else which is cool." Quite frankly, if you don't have the complete stuff in front of you -- which they didn't at the time -- that's a scary proposition for a developer, who's looking for, "Well, we should go high-definition and 7.1 audio and all of these things." We talked to them openly back then, we talked to Sony -- we also talked to Microsoft -- and Sony really had the whole package. ... But yeah, we're still good friends with Nintendo."
