Project Ego is very much a roleplaying game. We're making no bones about that at all. It's a roleplaying pinioned around this idea that, if you're playing a roleplaying game (and you can see this in Black and White) the character you're playing should change to reflect how you're playing the game. When you think about it, that's a great home for that morphing technology.
When you start out in the game you're this kid, this young adult who could end up a barbarian or an assassin or a wizard. You just don't know which way it's going to go. It depends on what you do in the game and which alignment you flow down. I say flow because it's not like he suddenly becomes a huge, Conan the Barbarian type immediately; he changes over time. The number of those morphs that we're doing is really incredibly. Everything, from his physical, individual muscles in his body to what hairstyles or tattoos he has.
You can divide those morphs into two distinct areas. One is game control morphs. If you're out in the sun a lot, you'll notice your character's skin will age much more than if you don't get out in the sun because the sun ages the skin. There's a whole host of those from muscles to skin texture. On the other side, is the stuff that you control -- how you cut your hair, whether or not you shave, whether or not you slept that night. How everything reacts to you depends on your look. I think that's quite a unique element in a roleplaying game.
Let's take an example: Suppose you've been wielding the heaviest ax and every time you see an opportunity to wield it, you did. Your character's body is much more muscularly developed because he's had to face every situation with this huge ax. Quite simply put, he'll be a big, bulky stocky character who'll find it hard to creep around at night. Whereas if you had stood in the shadows and, when the right moment came, leapt out and stabbed someone, you won't develop muscles so much but you'll be much more dexterous and you're going to be able to do much more nimble things. Those are the ultimate ends of these paths but people will probably have a combination of the two. Rather like Black and White but a lot further on, it enables people to have a character that reflects the way they play the game rather than having to play the game how we want them to.
