Impresiones de Fran:
Visually speaking, I'm most impressed with the fur rendering technology.
It is used all over the worlds, not just on Fox and Krystal. It's used for the grass, for instance. If you press the Z-trigger and look at the grass in first-person, you'll see that it actually moves and sways as if it was being blown by the wind. The grass looks more bulbous, true, but it's still amazing to see these thousands of "blades" moving around. There is longer grass too later on, which is very impressive.
There's tons of real-time lighting effects. Finally, a company puts next-generation technology to good use. Not everything is light-sourced, but there is a lot of dynamic lighting when projectiles are fired, flames are lit, etc.
The infinite lighting, which denotes the tone of the entire settings, is not boring or predictable. The Star Fox worlds are super-saturated with color and the lighting compliments this well. As the sun rises and sets, you get a feel for this. As you enter differently themed areas of the world, the lighting may change from a powdery blue to hazy yellow. It's all very, very nice.
Modelling and texture work (which varies in quality) is also very impressive. There's denying that Rare has done some of the best work yet on GameCube. It's a gorgeous game.
Especially in widescreen progressive scan mode. =)
impresiones de Matt:
Hey guys. I'm just about three quarters of the way through Star Fox Adventures, or 71%, according to the game. So far it's been a lot of fun; a true adventure game that's every bit as epic as Zelda. Rare's gone out with a bang.
Couple things: I don't see how everyone won't get at least 15 hours out of the game and possibly much more than that. I had the benefit of playing through the first six hours or so of the adventure in previous weeks so when I started up this time I flew through everything. I made it back to where I was before in just under three hours. Since then, I've logged more than eight additional hours. My game time is now at 12 hours and 32 minutes. Had I not played before, I have to think that I would be have clocked well over 15 hours into the game by now, which keeps getting more difficult.
This is a meaty, meaty title. Lots to do and see. Lots of upgrades. So many levels and goodies that you haven't seen in screenshots or videos yet. And wow -- I've been running it in progressive scan and widescreen mode on my Sony Wega XBR and it's one of the most vibrant, detailed GameCube offerings yet.
No spoilers. But I thought everyone would like to know that it's, so far, a very engaging, consuming experience, and well worth the buy....
...Yeah, I saw the 4.5 in EGM and have no idea how to explain it. Really, I just completely disagree and I find it difficult to believe that anybody who played the game at length could deliver that review score. There is simply NO reason for it. None. It's an epic, beautiful game, and whether one likes adventure titles or not that must be recognized.
If anyone claims, too, that SFA has too much collecting in it, they haven't played it. The game is not about that at all. It's much more about solving puzzles and finding the occasional artifact.
