Me he cargado las X!

Después de instalar knoppix en el disco duro e instalar algunos programas (juegos,aMSN, azureus, amule, etc) he intentado instalar los drivers NVidia con un script descargado de http://kanotix.com/files/
Leí que la gente había instalado estos drivers con ese script sin problemas.
Después de ejecutar el script, que se descargaba automáticamente la última versión de los drivers(unos 8 megas), he reiniciado y he vuelto a ejecutar el KDE, y se veía todo mal, como si estuviera a 8 bits de color. Entonces he ido al asistente para configurar las X y le he puesto lo de siempre 1024x768 85Hz y 24bits. He vuelto a reiniciar el desktop y entonces el KDE no paraba de darme errores. Después de esto he vuelto a salir de la interfaz gráfica para volver a instalar los drivers con el script (lo he intentado en los 2 kernerls y no lo he conseguido). Después de esta segunda ejecución del script ya no se me inician las X. Ni con startx, ni con kdm. Obtengo el mensaje: "failed to initialize the NVIDIA Kernel module!"
Y si ejecuto el script de instalación obtengo el mensaje: "Unable to determine the target kernel version"
Debido a ese último mensaje he pensado q posiblemente el script de instalación no se había bajado las fuentes del kernel 2.4.26 q estaba utilizando así que he ejecutado otro script de la misma página que se bajaba los sources (unos 30 megas). Pero después de esto sigo teniendo el mismo problema.

Además, ahora sin KDE, no sé como conectarme a internet (tengo adsl con router). Tengo los archivos resolv.conf y interfaces correctamente configurados con las IP´s y las DNS. En KDE cuando m quería conectar tenía q ejecutar cada vez el asistente de configuración de la tarjeta de red y si reiniciaba el ordenador lo tenía q volver a ejecutar. No sé si tengo q ejecutar algún comando más para que se conecte.

Espero que alguien m pueda ayudar, soy novatoooo en linux, madre mía! :O
prueba a editar el archivo /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 y de la seccion Device cambia Driver "nvidia" por Driver "nv" y almenos asi ya no ira por los drivers de nvidia si no por los drivers anteriores. Después intenta instalarlos siguiendo las intrucciones del Readme que aparece al descomprimir los drivers de Nvidia y para cualquier duda ya sabes [oki]
He cambiado el driver nvidia por nv en el archivo de configuración y ahora ya se inician las X. Pero sigo teniendo la profundidad de color a 8 bits y no consigo cambiarlo con el asistente de configuración de las X. Al iniciarse el KDE no para de darme errores en las aplicaciones kcminit, ksplash, kcmshell, en todas envían la señal 11 SIGSEGV, y en general, en casi todas las ventanas de aplicaciones al cerrarlas.
pues ni idea, te puedo ayudar a poner los drivers de nvidia manualmente que es como siempre los he puesto y nunca me han dado problemas. Lo de los errores ni idea.

y he ejecutado sh nombredriver.run y me ha buscado un kernel en internet pero no lo ha encontrado así que decide compilarlo él
y me dice que la version del compilador no era buena (pq tengo la 3.3 y los drivers fueron compilados con 2.95)
he leído q poniendo IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=1 y export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH se evita este error. luego he vuelto a ejecutar el instaladorme dice algo del kernel así q creo q ahora tengo q bajar las cabeceras esas
haciendo uname -a me sale q tengo la version 2.6.6 #2 así q ejecuto en la consola apt-get install kernel-headers-2.6.6-2 pero me dice q el paquete no existe o no lo encuentra.
Prueba con algo como apt-get search kernel-headers o algo así (lo siento no uso debien)

bueno, mestoy bajando los sources, son unos 30 megas, así que a esperar media horita. Desde luego, que fácil es instalar unos drivers en Windows!
pero bueno, esto de Linux tiene su gracia, cuando consigues algo te sientes más realizado
Para esto último, habrá que hablar con los de nvidia
Bueno, buscando, buscando, he encontrado una guía para compilar el kernel (http://home.comcast.net/~andrex/Debian-nVidia/installation.html) y he conseguido instalar los drivers NVIDIA. He editado el X86Config-4 añadiendo:
load glx
comentando las líneas load glcore y load dri
y en driver he cambiado nv por nvidian
Ahora el KDE se inicia sin errores pero siguen sin funcionar los juegos en 3D, no se abren, simplemente, antes de instalar los drivers se me abrían pero se ejecutaban muy lentamente. Además el escritorio se ve muy mal, como si estuviera con 8 bits de profundidad de color. Esto no sé como cambiarlo, tengo un asistente de configuración llamado xfree86 Configuration pero no me funciona. Tampoco sé como editar el archivo manualmente para seleccionar la resolución.
Tampoco me sale ningún logo de nvidia al iniciar como dicen por allí que sale.

¿Alguna idea?

Además durante la instalación del driver el programa me avisó de que había un problema con el módulo rivafb. ¿Tengo que eliminarlo? Copio aquí, el log de la instalación y el contenido de mi X86Config-4 por si os sirve para ayudarme. Gracias por adelantado.

He solucionado el problema, era una de las mayores paridas de la historia, solo tenía que cambiar una línea en el x86Config, la de default color Depth, y quitarle la "#" que hacía q ignorara la línea, lo he quitado y lo he puesto a 24 y ahora va todo perfectamente.

P.D. El instalador de nvidia no m ha funcionado pq no me detectaba las fuentes del kernel, el path estaba bien y había un enlace simbólico a la carpeta así que no lo entiendo. Parece que hay más gente con problemas para instalar estos drivers en Debian. Me bajé los nvidia packages para Debian y los instalé con dpkg -i nombredelpaquete, luego compile el kernel con la guía (http://home.comcast.net/~andrex/Debian-nVidia/installation.html) y después volví a ejecutar el instalador de nvidia. Ahora todo está correcto pero no sé si debería eliminar algunas carpetas de fuentes de las que me he bajado, son un montón de megas instalados en /usr/src/ y no sé si sirven para algo más.
