September 20, 2006 - At a press conference held in Tokyo on Wednesday afternoon, Microsoft shared new details on its year end software lineup for the Japanese Xbox 360. The company has a number of killer titles planned for the end of the year, with a number of games at last winding up a lengthy development period.
As relayed in previous stories, Microsoft's big year end title for Japan is Blue Dragon. The long awaited Mistwalker RPG will be available on 12/7 at the standard Xbox 360 software price point of 6,800 yen. Microsoft will also bundle the title as part of a limited edition Core System Blue Dragon Premium Pack which, for 28,831 yen, will get you a 360 core system, 360 controller, S-Video AV cables, AC adapter and a copy of Blue Dragon.
In materials handed to the press today, Microsoft noted that Blue Dragon will have some sort of Xbox Live functionality. It did not share specifics. In past interviews, producer Hironobu Sakaguchi has expressed an interest in minimal Xbox Live support for the game.
Blue Dragon will be surrounded by some major releases. Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 will hit Japan on 11/22 (one week after the US version), carrying a hefty price tag of 9,240 yen. Tecmo reps weren't on hand to explain the pricing, but we sure hope there's a good reason for it!
Closing out the year for the 360 will be Lost Planet. The Capcom adventure game, whose demo, Microsoft revealed, has been downloaded in excess of 500,000 times from Xbox Live Marketplace, will see Japanese release on 12/21. That may sound awfully close to Christmas, but it's a typical release date for big year-end game in Japan.
The Japanese 360 will be seeing a number of big titles this year even beyond these three. Microsoft announced that the system will reach the 110 games mark by the close o the year.
