Hello everyone. There's this game I recently discovered over the net and thought I talk about it a little bit. The GD atmosphere is truly inspirational and I think it's a pity that many people did not appreciate this game in its early development stage. For me, this game was the highlight of the year and I personally belive that it has a great future ahead.
Why do I like Galactic Dream so much?
Design
I just simply love complex, real time, space based strategies! And there's sure not much of them today. Except for StarCraft, of course
. I had the chance to play the almost complete game version and I must confess: I simply love this game! I like open space, I liked the balanced gameplay, I liked the "alien" feel of the units. In fact, I like weird stuff... Each one of the three species has its own technological beneaths, his own research pattern and warfleet organization. You can anytime zoom in, zoom out for better battlefield control, rotate the camera or lower it to the "ground" level. The overall atmosphere is different and imaginative; the alien tech tree is weird, but I think that strange enviroments are commonplace in GD! Many aspects of the design and style made this game a refreshing experience for me.
The Space Battles
As you progress through the game, you research new technologies and weapons of war, build dozen of structures on your homeworld. Then, you start building up a task force or, if you like, an entire armada. Humans fighting aliens, aliens fighting each other; I really enjoyed this part of the gameplay. Each unit has up to four abilities to cast into the forge of battle; each unit can sustain multiple upgrades, such as engines, damage, sensors, cloak etc. (what a sweet little touch). Space battles is just another aspect of the overall skill challenge the game provides.
The Story
I personally liked the overall story and I just can't wait to be implemented into the game. The basis for the story is that the "slayer of worlds" are invading all the inhabited worlds within Daeva galaxy. Even the mighty sandkings failed under the rage of these vile creatures! Nothing can stop them, althought, there's still hope. I would really like to see the Neuman character into action and I trust he'll be capable to change the fate of his own race.
What I personally didn't like:
Hmmm... I think that a beginner would surely get a headache before understanding how the game interface system works.
The organic textures are not so natural and, the Evolution Vault guys should really start working at animating the slayers.
Conclusion
I know this is all a matter of opinion but, though I can boast this game a bit (I must admit, being a strategy freak, it comes naturally to me
) I sure hope this RTS artifact will reach its aims. The potential is there, it's up to developers to use it... However, I belive that, no matter how many more future implementations will be added to the game, the overall gameplay will remain the same, while keeping all of Galactic Dream's coolness. Feel free to play the Terran Alpha Demo at any time. I'm just saying you this: Never be afraid to try Something New. So, send me an e-mail or reply here to let me know what you think. And please stop deleting this thread because you may think it's comercial propaganda. It is not! And I'm just an ordinary fan who falled inlove with a game and want to share it with the resto of the world. Just like you did... And that's all folks!
Lisa, out...
