The first Mash-Mods-developed modification chip is now finally available! It took three months of research, development, prototyping and testing and the result is the DS Chip Advanced for the Nintendo DS.
This unique mod chip enhances your gaming experience when you play GameBoy Advance games on the Nintendo DS. The chip adds two separate functions to the X and Y buttons of the DS, which usually remain inactive when you play Advance games on it. This means that the X and Y buttons can be used as two additional action buttons for all of your games.
The chip has three modes. For the first mode, X and Y act like Turbo A and Turbo B respectively. For example, pressing and holding X will act like a turbo button for A, so that A will be constantly pressed very quickly. This is a great feature for action or shooting games where these buttons have to be constantly pressed during game-play. The second mode let’s you use X and Y as the R and L buttons of the system respectively. Therefore, instead of using the shoulder buttons you can now have all four action buttons on the face of the screen, ideal for fighting games or fingers that get cramped from pressing the shoulder buttons. The final mode is OFF, disabling the chip from affecting your game play. This mode is crucial for when you are playing DS games on your system.
Toggling between the three modes is very simple, all you have to do is press Select + L at the same time to switch. There is also an LED indicator function to display whether the chip is on or off. When the green system LED is on, the chip is deactivated; otherwise the green LED will be off when the chip is in ones of its active modes.
Installing the chip is not difficult. It requires opening the system, sticking the chip onto the system, and soldering the 10 already pre-cut wires. There is a detailed installation guide available in the downloads section of the page that includes easy to follow steps and plenty of images. If you aren't comfortable with this installation, Mash-Mods offers a fantastic DS Chip Advanced installation service.
