Problemas con el mplayer

Hola a todos, aviso de que soy un poco novato en linux pero bueno, leyendo y leyendo voy aprendiendo mas cosas.

Con respecto al tema, he instalado todos los plugins necesarios al menos para el gstreamer y escucho y veo bien las peliculas con el totem, el problema viene con el mplayer, lo instale con sinaptic para amd64, la distro que estoy utilizando es ubuntu para amd64, el mplayer abre bien, pero en cuanto cargo una pelicula se queda mas frito que frito y no me pone nada, simplemente tengo que matar el proceso, no he conseguido instalar los codecs de w32 porque obviamente son para 64 bits, asi que me imagino que el fallo pueda venir de ahi y no soy capaz de encontrarlos por ningun lado.

Si me pudieseis orientar un poco os lo agradeceria.

Creo haber leido algo por ahí acerca de que pocas distros para AMD64 funcionan bien del todo. Si no recuerdo mal para que algunas cosas rularan de forma correcta había que hacer un apaño mediante chroot.

Mira en http://www.ubuntuforums.org porque seguro que encuentras algo acerca de lo que buscas, eso sí, estará en inglés. Concretamente este foro parece que contiene información sobre AMD 64, pero echa también un vistazo en los otros.

Mplayer a veces es algo pijo para los skins y fuentes y si no los encuentra casca.
Lanza gmplayer desde consola y te dirá q es lo q está fallando.
Gracias a los dos por las respuestas, hare la prueba de gmplayer, a ver que es lo que puede estar cascando, porque es algo raro, el programa abre perfectamente, pero en el momento que le cargas un archivo de video se fastidio, se queda frito como el solo.

No se que es el sinaptic, pero me imagino que será un gestor de paquetes... el problema no puede venir que te has instalado una versión compilada para 32 bits del mplayer en lugar de 64?
Todavia no he podido probar el fallo, tengo un animalejo tirando en windows y no he parado el equipo durante unos cuantos dias, pero la version que instale fue la de 64 bits.

El sinaptic es el gestor de paquetes de Ubuntu, cuando busque el mplayer, directamente me ponia mplayer64 y en la explicacion venia que era la version para 64 bits, tambien te carga todas las dependencias necesarias.

Gracias, en cuanto pueda probar lo gmplayer os dire que errores me da, por si no se como resolverlos.

Ya he abierto el mplayer, he probado a poner gmplayer desde terminal, al final abre el programa y esto es lo que me pone:

Ahi se queda frito, hasta que desde terminal doy a ctrl+c y cierra el mplayer. Esto es lo que pone al cerrar:
