Que Paso Con La Indream

Se llamaba Indrema y sencillamente... murio.
El mercado de las consolas esta obligado a tener detras a una empresa con mucho dinero para poder salir a la luz y mantenerse...
Para codigos abiertos y gratuitos ya esta el PC (de hecho la Indrema era un PC si lo piensas bien...)

Para quien quiera saber todo las caracteristicas que prometia esta consola aqui pongo sus "supuestas" caracteristicas:

Base:
750MHz AMD Duron CPU
64MB DDRAM
$299 launch price expected.
Availability to be determined (Fall 2001?)

Developer Console:
Developer consoles will be at cost ($600)

10GB Hard Disk
DVD drive (at least 4x read)

DVD-9 is the standard for pressing game discs. CD-R is being considered.

USB external modem support
Peer-to-peer is available (connect two Indremas together with an Ethernet patch cable). Game software must be written to support this kind of connection, though!
"LAN Parties" can be had, using a HUB and Router instead of an Internet connection.

DV/Linux OS:
"DV Linux is an Open Source distribution of the Linux operating system specifically designed for consumer electronics -- that is, digital multimedia applications targeted at the television as the default view port. Indrema has partnered with Red Hat to initially manage the development of the DV Linux Distribution. Open Source technologies such as Mesa 3D and OpenStream will be included in the DV Linux distribution. A streamlined X-Window compatible display interface willallow for display of high performance graphics without the UI overhead of the desktop Linux implementations."
Kernel stored in FlashROM
BIOS is separate from kernel (so if a kernel update gets interrupted, you can start again)
Kernel/software will be available on a 'recovery' DVD which comes with the unit
OS RAM footprint is approx. 2MB

Web Browser:
Based on the open source "Gecko" page rendering engine (from the Mozilla project; used in a number of other browsers)
A "light" browser
Bookmarks supported
Currently not multi-user (everyone shares the same bookmarks, history and preference).

E-mail Client:
Simple; similar to WebTV's
POP-based (use any ISP!)
No IMAP support yet
E-mail can be left on the server
Currently not multi-user

PersonalTV:
TiVo/RePlay-like features: Record broadcasts, and timeshift (pause/rewind/slow-motion of live TV)
1 hour of video takes approx. 1GB of hard disk space
DVD-quality content off the Internet is planned (no relationships yet)
TV listings will be pulled off of the Internet (over SSL).
HOPE to provide the service for free.

Auto-Update Agent:
Will contain general enhancements, not patches or packs for specific games or 3rd party products.
(3rd parties could provide packs, patches and downloads themselves, of course!)
Tuning pack releases expected every 3 to 6 months
Pulled off the Internet (over SSL)

Games:
30 games are planned to be available at launch.
Titles are not being divulged until closer to launch.

Non-Game Software:
If non-games (eg, word processors, etc.) are ported, Indrema will certify them (assuming they meet technical requirements).

Aparte de todo esto permitiria reproducir MP3, Audio CD y Video DVD y tenia soporte para HDTV.

PD: es una lastima que este proyecto no llegase a nada, desde luego prometia y mucho.

esta Claro ke la mierda de las consolas es una mafia entre Sony, Microsoft y Sega....Mirar como akabo Neo Geo ( y eso ke era la mejor) nada kolegas ke estaba soñando con la indream pero esos fascinerosos de mierda la han jodido...SERAN LAMMERS! ¿ahora entendeis por ke hay gente ke teniendo pelas se dedika a joder a Sony y microsoft? espero ke si....Dreamcast Still Lives!--->

Oye, pues no tenia mala pinta...que pena que no haya resultado. Tecnicamente es muy parecida a la X-Box (bueno, mas o menos...digamos que es su "opuesto").

Y es cierto. A veces pienso que en este puñetero mundo del videojuego de vez en cuando estaria bien que las grandiosas compañias de hard, dejaran de vez en cuando asomar la cabeza a pequeñas grandes ideas como esta. Nos hemos perdido una consola que ofrecia la caracteristica de ser en codigo abierto. Y eso es un filon que podria ser muy bien aprovechado.

P.D. Retiro lo de las grandes compañias y lo sustituyo por nosotros, los usuarios...pero bueno, es ley de mercado. Nadie va a comprar nada tan caro si no le supone un beneficio seguro.

Lastima que ni llegara a salir al mercado. Hubiese estado bien que existiera una competidora basada en linux.
