Last night I backup SF4 (little did i know this has trouble seeing the controllers), ran the FTP program, lifted the SFO out, edited in in SFO editor to allow remote play. Then put the SFO file back, entered remote play and ran the modified game. Instead of showing the fail screen for trying to play a non remote play game over remote play this time it worked and we got to the same screen when loading the game properly.
in short: SFO editing games to allow remote play works.
So exactly how is this done? Well follow the tutorial below to replicate the results and play your own games (courtesy of PS3Exploits)
How to:
1. Dump any game of your choice to your hdd
2. Install Ps3 FTP and launch it
3. Connect via ftp and navigate to your hdd folder then to games -> LAUN12345 -> GAMEZ -> YOUR GAME ID -> PS3_GAME
4. Now copy PARAM.SFO and make a backup of it just in case
5. Download SFO Editor open the sfo and check “enable remote play”
6. Save it and then open up the FTP and transfer the modded sfo back into the PS3_GAME folder.
7. Now connect your psp in remote play and enjoy.

No voy a traducir, pero asi en resumen, la opcion de remote gamemplay viene inscrita en un archivo facilmente modificable (param.sfo) el qual podemos extraer de la consona con el server ftp, modificarlo y volverlo a meter para que nos deje jugar con nuestra psp.
Como:
1. Crea un backup de tu juego en el hdd de la consola
2. Instala Ps3 ftp y arrancalo
3. Conectate via ftp al hdd de la consola entonces vas a la carpeta de los juegos -> LAUN12345 -> GAMEZ -> YOUR GAME ID -> PS3_GAME
4. copia PARAM.SFO a tu pc, haces un bakup (por si acaso)
5. Te bajas el SFO editor y chekeas "enable remotegameplay"
6. Guarda el archivo y metelo en la consola con el server ftp
7. Conecta la psp a la consola y juega.
