Además si es un problema de un kernel viejo y que no está presente en versiones posteriores entonces lo que tienes es que saltar a las versiones nuevas. Cualquier Ubuntu 17.04 o variante ya debe venir al menos con el kernel 4.9 (creo que al final le metieron la 4.10), Manjaro y otras basadas en Archlinux probablemente estén ya en la 4.10 o sea posible actualizar a el desde repositorio.
