Microsoft's Xbox may hold the number two position in terms of marketshare worldwide, but a recent study suggests
Microsoft may be winning the long-term battle for consumers’ hearts. According to a recent study conducted by the Reputation Institute in association with Delahaye Medialink,
Microsoft ranked as the number one company among American consumers based on how they were portrayed by the media. Microsoft's most recent product launches including the Xbox and MSN8 have won over both consumers and critics, according to the study. For reference, the top five companies in the study were Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Disney, General Motors and IBM.
Over 100,000 print and broadcast media items from 80 of the top outlets were analyzed in developing the index. Rankings were determined from composite scores based on four measurements: volume, reach, quality, and tone of the stories. The latter two criteria were judged according to six attributes: emotional appeal, products and services, vision and leadership, workplace environment, social responsibility, and financial performance.
