Ubuntu no detecta resolución en PC

Me ha pasado un par de veces que los vídeos simplemente dejan de reproducirse. Era algo muy raro. No iba ni Youtube, ni Twitter, nada. Pensé que sería cosa de Firefox. Hoy he visto que en Chromium me pasaba lo mismo y que tampoco me iba con VLC/SMPlayer.

Después de reiniciar todo vuelve a ir como la seda. La cosa es que he reiniciar y la pantalla del portátil tenía una resolución de 960x540. Muy raro. He intentado cambiarla pero no me daba ninguna otra opción, era la única resolución disponible. Más raro todavía. El segundo monitor tenía su resolución FHD, era cosa solo de la pantalla del portátil.

Además de eso, el tema de ventanas no estaba, el de iconos tampoco, todo por defecto pero faltando algunos iconos, por ejemplo.

Al iniciar sesión me sale un error enorme con lo siguiente:

Lo que he hecho es buscar un apaño para lo de la resolución y al iniciar sesión se añade automáticamente con 2 comandos de xrandr...pero me parece una chapuza total.

De las 6 o 7 veces que he reiniciado, 2 veces me ha cogido los temas y toda la configuración sin problemas. Las otras veces no.

He pensado que podía ser cosa de los drivers de nvidia al principio. He downgradeado de la versión 418 a la 415 que he tenido mucho tiempo pero nada, no es eso.

Lo único que hice hace unos días fue instalar arandr, abrirlo, mirar, no tocar nada y cerrar. Lo instalé por curiosidad, para ver que opciones me daba y a lo mejor se ha cargado algo.

En fin, ahora puedo tirar, pero me gustaría ver si puedo devolver el sistema al estado que estaba antes.
