Vol. 1: Buga the Knut We kick off the feature with the infamous Buga the Knut, a fat, primitive giant that Conker has to face off with amidst the cheers of blood-hungry attendees in the coliseum. It's a fairly epic boss battle, but it's the eye-opening improvement in visuals that got us excited all over again.
First off, the camera has been changed. This closer angle allows you to see the stadium seating and more of the background, not to mention more of the detail on Conker and his commandeered t-rex. The stadium is more wide-open, filled with more bystanders, and flames rocket out of the lava moat that surrounds the arena.
As for changed detail, gone is the cracked, dry earth of the N64 version. The Xbox version sports a sandier lot, complete with patches of gray weeds that lightly waver in the breeze. The lighting has also changed drastically; the shadowing is vastly more detailed, casting silhouettes of the above architecture down on the arena and Conker; the atmosphere is all red and heated; and, the overall setting is undeniably more moody thanks to the changes.
You'll notice some little things: Buga's footprints are still there, his clothing shifts around more, and in general more particles grace the arena.
