Warp Pipe project director Chad Paulson told Nintendojo tonight that the software in development has achieved 60 frames per second between two locations using standard broadband connections with 256 kbps upload. What's more, the network configurations used for the beta version of the software currently under preparation included both the standard router method and a setup with 2 network interface cards on one computer. The participants were located in Bloomington, IN and Chicago, IL.
Movies previously captured from the tunneling project only a few days ago clocked in at approximately 38 fps, making this a rapid, dramatic improvement.
Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more exclusive, breaking news updates on the Warp Pipe. (nh)
From what I can tell doing a series of tests, it's all about ping and latency. If you and your friend have 128kbps up and higher and you both live rather close (400 miles or shorter) you are good to go full speed. Now, of course, results vary. Playing half-way across the country when you have a good ping is very close to full speed.
