Sega's Got a Green Hat?
[POSTED: 04-Mar-02]
I know that Microsoft nearly bought out Sega and that they have a good relationship, but Sega is acting ridiculous with this so-called multiplatform developer crap. The PlayStation 2 is basically selling like crazy and Sega still choose to give the Xbox all these exclusive games. The PlayStation 2 doesn't have any real good Sega exclusives. I don't know if you heard, but another Web site has reported that Virtua Fighter 4 will now come to the Xbox. It will [reportedly] have new characters and stages not included in the PS2 version. The Xbox has Jet Set Radio Future, Gunvalkyrie, House of the Dead 3, Panzer Dragoon, Crazy Taxi 3, Shenmue 2, and now World Series Baseball 2K3--all exclusively. What gives? Sega might as well just sell itself to Microsoft, like it was going to do before, if it plans to keep screwing GameCube and PlayStation 2 owners.

I think I might have to finally agree with you here, Anthony. Sega's decree of all major titles to all major platforms isn't exactly holding water right now. Sega can try to spin it off by saying that the choices of exclusive games are based upon console demographic, but there's really no difference between the PlayStation 2 and Xbox owner. It's becoming obvious that Sega certainly favors the Xbox. Why? Because Microsoft shares Sega's vision of making online gaming a hit with the mainstream. In all honesty, it might come back to bite Sega in the behind like it did with the Dreamcast. Is the average person ready to pay a monthly fee to play games online? I don't think so. Is it really a big deal that Sega is making most of its games exclusive to the Xbox? Based upon the sales of Sega's nonsports games over the past few years, not really.
