Installing DirectX 9.0b

If you declined to install DirectX 9.0b when initially installing
Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter, you can at a later time by running
"dxsetup.exe" located in the "DirectX9.0b" folder on the 4th
install CDROM.

Troubleshooting

DirectX 9.0b
------------

It is highly recommended that you install DirectX 9.0b from your
Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter install disk as DirectX 9.0b is known
to resolve a number of video card and other graphical issues.

Video Card Drivers
------------------

Some video card drivers do not support Direct3D correctly. Typical
problems that may occur with these drivers include:

- Crashing on starting up
- Crashing when changing video resolutions
- Corrupted textures
- Unexpected bright flashing on screen
- Unusually slow performance.

The solution is to go to your video card manufacturer's website
and download updated drivers for your card. It is highly
recommended that, given an option, you download and install
Microsoft-certified (WHQL) drivers.

Improving Game Play Performance
==================================================================

Some machines will benefit from experimenting with your
video/sound options. You can see the graphical/speed changes
by pressing the "Test" button.

- Try disabling Motion Blur inside the "Setup" menu.
This is particularly useful with computers with less
than 64 MB of video RAM.

- Try disabling Specular/Dynamic Lights/Shadows in the
"setup" menu to increase your frame rates.

- If your video resolution is greater than 640x480, try
reducing it to 640x480 in 'Options' menu.

- If your colour bit depth is 32 bits, try reducing it to
16 bits in your video menu.

Sound
==================================================================
Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter uses the Miles Sound System (TM) to
provide advanced environmental effects using Creative Labs' EAX
technology.

Please use the setup program to provide the game with accurate
information about your system. If you have an EAX-capable
soundcard, selecting one of the Creative Labs options as the 3D
sound provider will enable the environmental effects. Also, you
should select the speaker configuration that most closely matches
the one you normally use.

You should make sure that you have the latest available drivers
for your sound card, otherwise you may experience game slowdown,
and/or silent or distorted sound.

Some soundcards, particularly those that do not support EAX, may
cause noticeable slowdown with certain 3D sound providers. If
this is the case, using the Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio option
should help.

Under Setup, you can choose which sound decoder to use. Here is
a brief explanation of each type:

Fast Miles 2D Positional Audio : (default) Fastest most compatible
option, although doesnt have as many features as EAx.

Creative Labs EAX (TM) : Takes advantage of Creative's EAX 1
technology if supported by your card. May have some performance
issues on some cards.

Creative Labs EAX 2 (TM) : Takes advantage of Creative's EAX 2
technology if supported by your card. This is the best sounding
option if your system can cope, although may have some performance
issues on some cards.

DirectSound3D Hardware Support : Use this option if other options
cause problems.

DirectSound3D Software Emulation : Slowest, but most compatible
option. Should only be used if all other options cause problems.
