Onlinewelten: The appearance of a Commando is unlike everything we have seen so far. Why did you decide to go for a modern look with this profession?
Jon Peters: The commando has some lore roots in
Guild Wars, so we decided to run with it. We felt it was important to demonstrate the 250 year gap from
Guild Wars to
Guild Wars 2.
Onlinewelten: The trailer suggests that Commandos keep to themselves, but if they can mingle with other classes what kind of task would a Commando have to fulfill in a party? Is it perhaps possible to play the Commando as a medic as well and if so how close to the battle does he need to get in order to carry out his duty?
Jon Peters: Like all professions the commando player can fulfill any role, from DPS with a grenade launcher, to a medic HEALER, and quite literally as a TANK driver.
Onlinewelten: The equipment of a Commando does not feature any similarities to items used by other classes. Can all professions use assault rifles and grenade launchers or are those weapons unique to this profession?
Jon Peters: The weapons are unique to the commando - his advanced military training allows him to utilize technology that other professions just don't understand.
Onlinewelten: Speaking of weapons - We have noted that a flamethrower is also part of the arsenal. Could you please elaborate in which instances it is most useful? What kind of skills does this weapon offer?
Jon Peters: Flamethrower is good in a variety of situations—you can create a basic flamethrower fire attack, but you can also air blast projectiles, create a burning area on the ground, or flame-jump around the map.
Onlinewelten: We are curious, what else we can expect from a Commando? Delayed-action bombs? Mortars? Arrows with explosives?
Jon Peters: Arrows with explosives are a bit low tech, and are best left to warriors and other barbaric professions. However, bombs and deployable drones are not off the table.
Onlinewelten: It seems most skills of a Commando are one-shot kills.
Aren't you afraid, that this might lead to serious imbalances in PvP? Do they have any weaknesses at all?
Jon Peters:
Their one weakness is fear of commitment. A commando doesn't like to get too involved. Of course they are overpowered in PvP, just like all other professions.Onlinewelten: Is it possible to evade a bullet from a Commando, even if the sniper hides several hundred meters away? Maybe something along the lines of Spider-Man's spider sense?
Jon Peters:
Commandos don't really use bullets to miss, they shoot to kill. I guess players can develop their own spider sense, but there is nothing in the game specifically for this. http://www.onlinewelten.com/games/guild ... 4/seite-3/
