Gamersmint has discovered a few of the stuff that the recently released Firmware update 3.56 fixes. The most important of the lot is that they have fixed the ECDSA signature bug.
This means, private keys will become useless for anyone who downloads this firmware update or any future ones released after this.
Sony’s also fixed the downgrading with this update and it’s no longer possible (without new hardware) to do so.
3.56 CFW might arrive but it won’t work on systems who are using this firmware version and might only be installed in pre- 3.56 firmware consoles.
Sony really delivered with this security patch, as reports are coming from all around and we can confirm that anyone who installs 3.56 on their consoles which are hacked, won’t be able to access PSN.
A user over at Neogaf has summarized what this means pretty well:
What this means:
- All consoles on virgin 3.56 or higher can’t install CFW or homebrew without a downgrade via hardware.
- Homebrew will run on 3.56 or newer once resigned with different keys (but you can only install homebrew on 3.55 or lower)
- CFW 3.56 will eventually arrive but will only be able to be installed on 3.55 or lower.
This is a major triump for Sony as anyone who downloads this firmware update is unlikely to succeed in hacking their consoles in the future.
