Reichu, de EvaMonkey escribió: First up, the Clockworks logo mark.
- Then, a cut with Hikaru Utada "fly me ~" being written out against a black background.
- Next, the New Theatrical Feature footage starts to play in union with "fly me~".
- From start to finish, the characters say absolutely nothing. Likewise with sound effects.
- After the footage ends, the title logo "Evangelion New Theatrical Feature: Prelude" is written horizontally in red against black.
- After that, the text "Out on September 1, 2007"
- It concludes with an ad for the third round of advance booking. An image of Ayanami is on the right-hand side of the screen; on the left, the text "On Sale July 7".
- The preview's running time is approximately a minute.
That's it in a nutshell. From here I'll discuss the footage in detail (though my memory's vague...).
It starts off with the Angels. (* Apologies, I don't remember what order these were in.)
- Ramiel is looking awesome. The surrounding scenery is perfectly reflected on the cube. [I don't know if it's a mistake, but they say a six-sided figure, rather than eight...]
- A cut that approaches Ramiel from Tokyo-3. It advances to the foreground from deeper in.
- Next, it goes on to Sachiel and Shamshel.
- Sachiel is being bombed. This cut is compositionally almost the same as episode #01 of old Eva. A cut of it emerging from the mountains.
- Cut of Shamshel opening a large mouth. The whip-like hands are still present. The core is inside the mouth. I'll just say that it was kinda creepy.
On the Characters 1...
- Familiar scene of Gendo with arm in arm. [The "Gendo pose", I'd presume.] Is Fuyutsuki after that?
- Close-up of Gendo's face. Oblique angle. He bears an expression of sorrow (?).
- The scene of Shinji being beaten by Toji is here. Angle is about the same as episode #03 of old Eva. Toji grabs Shinji by the collar.
- There's also the scene of Ayanami sitting by the classroom window. In bandages, of course. She's just as cute as she was before (I know it's subjective, BUT...)
- Shinji enters. In the opening segment of old Eva's "Moment and Heart Together" [episode #09], there was a scene on a pedestrian bridge in front of the school, but here a weary Shinji descends from a pedestrian bridge on an escalator. The same school students are on top of the bridge. Of course, Asuka is not present this time.
The key frame animation seems to be entirely new. In the preview, it appears that there is no borrowing from old Eva. There were only a few scenes in which the composition and angles are roughly the same.
On the Characters 2...
- A cut of Shinji's eye. It takes up the entire screen.
- From there the camera pulls out and we see Shinji (in full) inside a cockpit being flooded with LCL.
- The LCL is represented as black, so it looks as though Shinji is suspended [in midair] as he clutches the control levers in the darkness.
- Towards the end of the preview, Ayanami appears again. The familiar image of her turned away, with the background of the Moon floating in darkness. About the same composition and angle as episode #06 of old Eva.
- After that (?), Shinji again (couldn't see him well, but I think he was wearing a plugsuit), and Misato-san.
- Misato turning away (left cheek is showing), after which she faces us again.
- Misato's face is very calm. It's like she has total peace of mind. A slight smile? Maybe this is the "I believe in EVA-01's pilot, too" scene from the poster.
Misato-san is looking even cuter (yeah, it's subjective, BUT...). She evokes a sense of youth.
The cityscape... [Most of this is dodgy. I told you this would be a crap-translation.]
- Scene from old Eva episode #01 of the coastal tank unit firing is also here this time. Only they've been much more finely detailed.
- Coastal tank unit's firing is at an angle due to the slanted overhead view. There is a lovely zoom-in.
- Because so many missiles are fired, it looks like Itao Circus (?) here.
- Most of the missiles rained down on Sachiel's face. That was so sad...
- There was the scene of the explosive pillar rising from a distant angle.
- The scene of the explosive flame that advances along the crossroads in the urban area, which was in episode #02 of old Eva. (It doesn't go up into the sky. Hard to explain.)
- There was some sort of scene comprised of downtown electric lines, which was in EOE's live action segment.
- Scene of an armament [?] building springing up from the ground. The angle is from the perspective of ground level (within Tokyo-3).
- The side of the armament building becomes solar [panel?]-looking.
I don't know what the deal with the LCL being black is. [Something along those lines.]
From here on out I'll be writing down my impressions, etc., on the characters' key animation and such.
On the Evas...
- There is the familiar scene of EVA-01 emerging from within its Cage.
- The NERV logo is on EVA-01's (?)shoulder. It was drawn nice and big -- but it was unclear if this was the new logo or not.
- Halfway through the preview, depictions of the Evas at Operation Yashima start showing up.
- Scene of EVA-00 standing in the rain. EVA-01, too? The atmosphere of the environs are a lot like the picture by Mr. Honda that appeared in Newtype.
- There's the scene where EVA-01 is lying on its belly, set up with the positron rifle. It's facing frontwards in our direction.
- The Eva scenes were superb, but, for reasons beyond my grasp, the image was rather dark on the whole.
- The scene showing the islands of Japan is here. But this time it is, far as I can tell, after Operation Yashima, since electricity is returning to the entire country.
- Starting with the Hakone region, light returns to the islands in a concentric circle.
- Tokyo lighting up is really awesome. There are lots of lights across the Kanto Plain. Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, etc., are pretty bright. Hereabouts, it is true to the real world.
- North Korea is completely dark.
Miscellany...
- The air about Shinji is, as far as I can tell, different from old Eva.
- He's a little like Sadamoto's rather dry version of the character.
- Were his eyes dead? For the time being, there aren't any scenes of Shinji smiling.
- Ayanami and Shinji appear about three times each; Gendo, Toji, and Misato about one.
- The animation was at a rather high level. But the composition and angles are still the same.
- Since CG was employed, it's become more realistic, as one would expect. But I don't think I got any bad vibes from the CG itself.
- Ramiel was amazing. Just at first glimpse, it felt like a whole cut above old Eva.
- Did the characters, overall, take on a more roundish appearance? With [some?] characters excepted, too. [<--???] But this is ultimately subjective. The character images in Newtype 5/07 seem to be the closest.
- I thought Ayamami and Misato were cute enough (it IS ultimately subjective...).
- As you'd expect of a movie, the quality is fantastic!
- The most I've been able to confirm are Ayanami, Shinji, Toji, Gendo, and Misato. Not sure about Fuyutsuki.
- Kaworu, Ritsuko, and the various operators have not been confirmed. Asuka is, naturally, not present.
