The definite fix for unrecognized DS-X in NDS!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For all of you with the following symptoms:
- 9 of 10 times DS-X has no icon or description in ds boot menu
- launching DS-X in this situation gives WSOD
- If it has launched sometimes DS-X hangs on saving EEPROM
- Tried everything, ie.: updating, formatting, formatting using swissknife, cleaning, paper tricks etc.
I started to become desperate, seeing how others who reported this issue on the support site were being told to return the unit.
Anyway, I fixed it! I fixed it using the HDD Low Level Format tool from Hddguru.com. You can get the tool here.
This tools' format is, as advertised, really low level. After using this tool, you will need windows to properly format the DS-X as a FAT device again.
In my case, the DS-X wasn't instantly recognized by the tool, as I had it plugged in during install. Removing and reconnecting it solved this problem.
!!OBVIOUSLY, THIS TOOL WILL REMOVE EVERYTHING ON YOUR DS-X, SO MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP!!
Now, every time I boot my DS, I am greeted by this beatiful DS-X icon. Welcome back, buddy. Hopefully it stays this way.
Hope this works for the rest of you guys, too.
To the developers: thanks for all the support, and thanks for reviving my DS-X earlier, when it died. And thanks for the new firmware, which makes it possible to use instant boot on FAT reliant homebrew.
