wtf dude?

First you tell people to write in cool english (I'm not sure what's so cool about writing like a three-year-old kid), and then you tell someone not to write the s in anyways. Kinda contradicting yourself, don't you think?

Also, just because some stupid yob doesn't know how to write in his own language on internet forums, it doesn't mean we should follow suit. This thread is for people who are trying to learn and practice their English skills, and I don't see the benefit for them in writing poorly.

btw, your cool english is so fake that it makes me laugh. Here's a pro-tip: if you wanna be cool, be yourself.

I lol'd, that's not cool english T_T I don't in which forums have u been, but I spend a lot of my free time in a game chat and well, they use many well-known expressions (also they usually write "u" instead of you and things like that)... So I don't see your point ¬_¬

I hate the "hamijo/oygan" Spanish written in internet. Why should I write in "cool" (maybe for you) English? And why do you say UK English sucks? I think International English (I mean not native) sucks a lot in most of the cases, but it is the one that I better understand :).

Un saludO!
Relax guys, this is just a thread to practice english, not a Harvard forum. I think it's better if we continue in a distended tone, typing down whatever we want for a laugh and that's it.

Adriskater, saying that uk english sucks means that english, welsh, scottish and northern irish accents are the same for you, and they are not at all.

Did you guys know that american English is an "older" version of English? I mean, it's like when we conquered Southamerica, their Spanish hasn't evolved the same way ours have, so they keep an "older" version of the language. It is quite curious, because I always related USA as more... modern, and their English is just the opposite [carcajad] .
Well, actually I speak american English, in accent and in words, and I like it better than brittish, but it has its... charm :-P
Mine is Irish, from Dublin. Not a shock considering that I live here, my gf is a dub and I work here, And I'm the only foreigner in my department.

Actually eol, along with my brothers (they also live here), a few calls to my folks and when I go back to visit (and get my head stuffed with tapas) are the few places where I can keep in touch with spanish.

It's funny cos I have family in america, miami to be precise, and when they come over they kinda slag us because of the accent. And we do the same. Do you understeh-and? XD

Oh, a little thing about american tourists. Why do they have to say that they are american when nobody asked them?
-a: It is obvious, once you heard them talking.

I bet it was a great day for Platini, and quite frankly, it deeply concerns me that the referees may be biased towards France in the WC because of his influence. I hope they crash out of it in their group, though, they don´t deserve to be there in the first place.

And ditto to what you´ve said, if FIFA constantly goes on about fair play and all that rubbish, in a normal world Henry and Frace would face severe fines, bans and expulsion from the WC, Ireland taking their place. I very much doubt it will happen though, but at least a rematch would suffice in my opinion.

Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It's that simple.

Why doesn't she agree?
I have Scottish cousins and I've always grown up thinking of Scotland as a country, so I would probably say yes, but it is true that every year they become more and more independent...I guess it's similar to what we have here with Catalunya or the Basque Country, but I think Scottish people in general are much more friendly with an independent Scotland than people here...

Macrike: I think they find it harder to consider it a country since they're partly depending on the UK(although they don't want or need to)...

Because she thinks that the Scotland dependece on England is big, especially on politics aspects

I think you are a bit... mistaken there, the United Kingdom is a group of countries, just like... Europe but smaller, it is formed by North Ireland, England, Wales, and Scotland so the comparision with Cataluña here is not really right, and I do not really know, but I don't think they have a problem belonging to the UK, I should chek it out, but what it's true is that they do not need to be independent of England, because they are not a part of it.
There are 4 countries forming a so-called kindgom.

I think you are also mistaken, Ireland isn't part of the UK, just Northern Ireland(which I guess isn't what you meant by saying "Ireland")...And I mean it in the sense that they are depending on the UK, not England, and they don't like that, I guarantee it(I sometimes talk to my cousins about it and about what people say around Scotland) [+risas] ...
Yeah, of course I meant North Ireland, I'm gonna edit. But I thought I read previously something of Scotland being a part of England.
In any case, I'm curious now, what problem do they have with the UK to be uncomfortable?
Well, they seem perfectly capable of organising anything they need without the help of the UK...I actually don't know the details, but looking on wikipedia you can read that "The United Kingdom Parliament retains power over a set list of areas explicitly specified in the Scotland Act 1998 as reserved matters, including, for example, levels of UK taxes, social security, defence, international relations and broadcasting.", which probably gives a bit of a defenceless feeling...I'm sorry, I'll try to find out more about this the next time I speak to my cousins, and then I'll be able to tell you more about what Scottish people think(though I think I remember them mentioning the growth of the nationalist party in Scotland in most places) [bye] ...

Once again, it´s Northern Ireland, if you say North Ireland you are referring to the northern region of Ireland (the independent state).

The question is whether Scotland is an independent state or not, if that´s what you understand by "country", then the answer is no. What you both are actually discussing is rather the concept of Nation (that stems from history, language, culture, identity and so on). which it has nothing to do with being an independent state, and it´s something completely separate from the political sphere.

In any case, I'm curious now, what problem do they have with the UK to be uncomfortable?

The Scottish government has published its white paper on Scotland's constitutional future, paving the way for an independence referendum.

First Minister Alex Salmond said Scotland must be independent to meet its full economic potential.

The minority SNP administration does not have enough support from opposition parties to stage a referendum in 2010.

The Scottish National Party reckons they can govern themselves on a small-scale more effectively, but I think it would be wrong to regard the Scots as separatists, when in fact all the indications show that the overwhelming majority do NOT want independence.

On a side note, the Lib Dem proposal of federating the four nations giving them devolved Parliaments looks more attractive and viable.
Thank you both for the answers, I had no idea and it looks interesting, I always felt attracted to Scotland and wanted to visit, so it's good to know as much as possible for I have a chance.

For a different subject... Why everybody confuses "post" with "thread"? [triston]
I get the post from the mailbox and if I need thread i go to my sewing kit. Simple. XD

And the northern region of ireland is called ulster.

Indeed. I´ve always been quite interested in the British nationalisms as they are quite analogous with the Spanish ones, to be honest. It appears to me they all seem to boil down to the same types of argument (identity, language…), although some people could find them as plausible arguments for independence, I just find them a bit weak and irrelevant as Britain is a very multi-ethnic and multicultural country. However, the proposal of a decentralized and federated state seems quite attractive to me and it is what I regard as the most appropriate form of social system where all layers of identity can be accomplished in the way they want to be , and in fact it´s something that I would be quite happy to see going ahead in Spain.

If you are interested in British History, I would highly recommend you a documentary, which is quite amusing and entertaining, from the BBC by Andrew Marr, just google “Andrew Marr modern Britain Rapidshare/Megaupload”, it covers the end of the Second World War onwards. There is also a new series airing on the BBC at the moment called “the making of modern Britain” that covers the start of the 19th century until the end of the Second World War.

Damn, 34 quid for a hair-cut? :S. Just make sure you can pull it off, though, in my opinion you need to have a very good jaw-line, very high cheek bones... etc.

Deah oh dear, it´s 2:50 and I have to finish a 5,000 word assignment that I have to hand in tomorrow and I´m not even half-way through! :( seems like I´ll have to pull an all-nighter!
i use to get my hair done in stylish places and pay a small fortune,
now i go to a traditional spanish place, you know, with the bottles on varon dandy on the shelfs and radio ole playing in the background,

anyways, cant beat 8 bucks for a haircut, they even do the final touches with a straight razor,

if can really spend 34 pounds on a haircut, maybe you should visit T&H or geo f trumpers for a traditional straight razor shave aswell, you know, just for the expiriance,

I know, it's kinda expensive for a gents haircut. In the end I have to wait for a couple of months to get the right length, 'cause now it's too short and doesn't stay back. I'll go back in February or March, when my fringe is long enough. The place was very cool though. I had never been to Spitalfields before, and ended up discovering a new market with some really nice shops and everything.

Btw, I've got to write a 3500-word essay and design an album cover (front, back, interior; studying Graphic Design) all before Friday. And I haven't even started. [mad] Can't wait for Christmas though. I want to see some snow again.

Yeah, I used to go to a really traditional barbers around the corner for some time now. The guy that usually cuts my hair is an old man from Galicia, and even the Guardia Civil that work at the Spanish Embassy go to cut their hair there. £11 pounds for a clean cut and a good conversation is well worth the money. But I felt the urge to get a quiff and the best place in London where to get one is at Pimps and Pinups. Like I said above, I just have to let it grow a bit more to finally get it done, so now I'm left with half a quiff. [carcajad]

I'm definitely going to Truefitt & Hill one day, though. It's a must-have for any fine gentlemen.
Wow, a non-spanish-thread with no antinacionalist replies! Kinda weird...

Not only that but you also have to make sure that your facial features are appropriate for that specific hair-style as I said before, itt´s quite a tricky hair-style to be honest, not everyone can pull it off.

3500 words before Friday? you´d better start getting on with it mate otherwise you may end up like me, totally high on caffeine and sleep-deprived lol. I just have to finsih a few loose ends and print it off, though!

Just in case.

Regarding the haircut thing, I can't pay that much for a hairdo, it is well over my budget. I tend to get it cut in either asian or eastern european places. Cheap, quick and up to the standards. And my gf went the other day to an asian hairdresser and left well impressed, really nice job anf much cheaper than the fancy irish places here.

Well, better get back to what I was doing.

I asked the girl if it would suit my kind of face, and she said yeah, no problem. She even tried to apply the quiff and hold it with her hands so I could see how it would look, and it was awesome. The only issue is the length… T_T I might post a pic when it's done. XD
