Anuncios PS3 - rumores -

Toriyama: "I'm really interested to see a more complete form of Final Fantasy VII"

"In a new interview, Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama has expressed his interests in creating a Final Fantasy VII remake. Although Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Final Fantasy XIII has already expressed his concerns in bringing the game's towns to high-definition, and Nomura has said development hasn't begun on a remake, it looks like Square Enix staffers still want to create it."

ACTIVISION SE CARGA REDOCTANE

Activision revealed the brutality of its latest redundancy operation over the weekend by confirming that Red Octane’s offices had closed down with substantial jobs cut.

The closure of RedOctane – a studio which only a year ago appeared in excellent health – adds to a worryingly growing list of Activision subsidiaries faced with the axe. It has been reported that as many as development 300 jobs have been cut by Bobby Kotick’s company following its recent financial report.

After Activision told Develop on Thursday that the company was restructuring, over the weekend the publisher confirmed to Kotaku that it was “relocating RedOctane to our Santa Monica headquarters” – suggesting that the brand could be kept alive.

Kotaku reported as many as 40 workers had been laid off, though Activision doesn’t reveal these kinds of figures. The publisher informed investors last week that during the final three months of 2009 its net loss nearly quadrupled to $286 million – damage done, in part, by the sliding sales of Guitar Hero games.

Warning signs had fired in early February when Dan Rosensweig, CEO of Activision’s Guitar Hero division, suddenly quit the company after less than a year after his appointment.

His swift replacement, David Haddad, was hailed by Activision as the right leader to “improve profitability."

Just as the music game genre was heading towards a commercial plateau, in ay 2006 Activision bought RedOctane for $100 million. The popularity of the series was once without question, with Activision previously stating that Guitar Hero had generated over $1b in sales.

But a sudden, sharp sink in sales suggested that Guitar Hero – and indeed the entire guitar-based music game genre – has dashed off a cliff.

P.D: Este hilo me encanta.

Codemasters working on fresh IP with impressive new recruit, CVG learns

Codemasters has confirmed to CVG that it has a new shooter IP in the works - from the mastermind behind Criterion's Black.

The firm is set to begin a recruitment drive for developers to join its Guildford Studio and work on the game - teaming up with new hire Stuart Black.

Black was the Senior Designer on Criterion/EA's seminal 2005 shooter. Yes, the clue's in the name on that one.

A rumour of Black's appointment first appeared in this month's Official PlayStation Magazine UK (they've got moles all over the place, you know).

VP of Codemasters development Gavin Cheshire not only confirmed the appointment to CVG today - but added that two more impressive industry vets were working on a new title with Black.

Former Game Director at Sony Computer Entertainment London Studio Tom Gillo has been signed up as executive producer, whilst Andrew Wilson - previously Senior Producer on Split/Second at Blackrock - becomes Senior Producer. The duo will lead an 80-strong development team working with Codemasters' famed EGO engine.

"Codemasters' Guildford Studio is key to our overall development strategy and this year has opened further positions across its design, programming and art teams," he said. "With Stuart Black directing the vision for our new IP in production, deployment of EGO and key development figures heading up a highly skilled team, our Guildford facility offers great potential for development talent based in the South East who want to join a growing studio and work on original titles."

Now, this is where it gets interesting: The 'Next Month' page in the current issue of Official Xbox Magazine UK says that the mag's next edition will feature: 'The world exclusive reveal of the shooter that everybody asked for...'

The release marks Codemasters' first new IP since the reboots of DiRT, GRID and Op Flashpoint.

Could this be to Black what Perfect Dark was to GoldenEye?

Fingers crossed, people. Fingers crossed.

Ubi: Next Assassin's Creed will 'surprise everybody'

Ubisoft Europe MD Alain Corre has said that he believes the next title in the Assassin's Creed series will "surprise everybody", but that he's still confident that it will prove to be a "big success".

Ubisoft Europe MD Alain Corre has said that he believes the next title in the Assassin's Creed series will "surprise everybody", but that he's still confident that it will prove to be a "big success".

Talking to GamesIndustry.biz, Corre said:

"For next year we have announced a few weeks ago that we've got a new Assassin's Creed game - the next iteration that will surprise everybody - and we believe that will be a big success as well.

"We need to put enough energy and talent into each new game, so it can become better than the previous one."

But what Assassin's Creed title is Corre talking about exactly? Well, judging by his comments, it would seem to suggest the multiplayer-enabled new episode, due for release between April 2010 and March 2011. Many believe the title to be a spin-off.

But could Corre actually be talking about Assassin's Creed III?
