35 staffers are rumoured to have been made redundant at Danish studio IO Interactive.
3D Realms boss George Broussard tweeted, "Layoffs at Io Interactive (Kane&Lynch/Hitman). As many as 35, and a project cancelled. Tis' the season."
Broussard has been right about these things before. Earlier this week he correctly forecast redundancies at EA.
IO Interactive had recently shipped Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Despite some dismal reviews it still managed to top the UK charts on release.
Earlier this year, rumours began circulating that it had started working on Hitman 5 for a possible Winter 2011 release.
We've been in touch with owners Square Enix to find out more. We'll update soon.
Let the bloodbath begin…..
EA and Grasshopper Manufacture released a short video for Shadows of the Damned today, and it’s posted below.
Basically it just shows monsters, our protagonist’s awesome skull adorned shotgun, and some White Zombie-esque music playing in the background.
It’s just enough to get your mouth wet for a game that’s not even suppose to be out until summer 2011, Suda you tease.
Enjoy it anyway, just don’t blink.

I am happy to announce that Tokyo Jungle will be roaring into the European PlayStation Store in 2011.
You might have read about it on some of your favourite gaming sites and in magazine as it was one of the hidden gems at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
Imagine a post apocalyptic Tokyo in which the human race has been wiped out and wild animals rule the planet. Finally, you’ll get to discover if a tiger could kill a crocodile and if a Chihuahua could outrun a monkey.
Choose your creature and try to survive as long as you can, running around the city in search of prey. You have to watch your back though; it’s a real jungle out there.
You can use your animal radar to detect targets and attack by surprise and, if things get bad for you during the battle, go for the vital organs to deliver a killing blow.
And don’t forget that both prey and predator have strengths and weaknesses to be taken into account.
The devastated Tokyo landscape is as large as thousands of HD TV screens and the action scrolls seamlessly from left to right without you ever needing to switch screens.
We’re hoping to bring you more information very soon but, in the meantime, dig your claws into these screenshots and the trailer.

Imageepoch, known for their RPG expertise and development on games such as Capcom’s The Last Ranker (pictured above) as well as Ignition Entertainment’s Arc Rise Fantasia, are preparing multiple new game announcements for November.
Company CEO Ryoei Mikage revealed plans for a press conference in a post on his blog, where the titles will be announced.
Back in June, Mikage teased new announcements for sometime around the Tokyo Game Show; they unfortunately didn’t happen. His teases hinted at the announcement of an HD game, a new net game, and a secret project which he listed as “XX.”
Earlier, back in May, a job listing seeking a role-playing game programmer hinted at Imageepoch working on their first PlayStation 3 project. The listing requested expertise on Wii, DS, PSP, and PS3 as a requirement and mentioned PlayStation 3 experience specifically as a big plus for applicants.
Imageepoch is currently working with Nippon Ichi Software on Criminal Girls for PSP, which will be available on November 18 in Japan.
Ending his blog post, Mikage said that in addition to preparing for the press conference, he will also be heading out to Los Angeles on a business trip.

Crytek UK is talking with various publishers about the possibility of creating a brand new TimeSplitters game, Eurogamer can reveal.
The studio formerly known as Free Radical Design is also discussing an original IP – a single-player and multiplayer first-person shooter – with publishers.
"We're talking to publishers at the moment about whether that's [TimeSplitters] a viable route or not," managing director Karl Hilton told Eurogamer at the GameCity festival in Nottingham last week.
"There hasn't been a TimeSplitters game for quite a while. Obviously TimeSplitters is a FPS with a strong multiplayer element. The question is, is that the way to go with another one, or should it go down a different route, or should we be developing a new IP altogether?
"It's down to us talking to publishers about what their interest is and where they see it going. If they're keen for a TS game, then we'd be happy to do one. If they'd like us to develop something new then we'd do that.
"Whether the TS is like the classic TS or whether the TS is a new imagined TS, that's the other thing to discuss with them."
While the game Crytek UK ends up creating is undecided, Hilton's comments are the clearest indication yet that gamers may one day see another TimeSplitters game.
And, according to Hilton, publishers are making positive sounds.
"Talking to publishers, everyone is aware of TimeSplitters. It's got a brand awareness that's really good. Its success in different markets was quite variable. So depending on who you talk to, they either look at it as a really successful product or as a product that was almost successful but could have done better."
More encouraging is Hilton's assertion that whatever happens, Crytek UK will retain the Britishness of the cult FPS series.
"The thing to watch out with something like TimeSplitters is it was a bit of a game of its time, but it was quite British. It had a sense of humour to it. These days it's difficult because the cost of developing the big budget games is so much now you need to have a broad market. You need to be trying to sell everywhere.
"So you've got to avoid making something that's too niche, that doesn't work, but at the same time you can't make something bland and generic because there are plenty of those. It's getting that character and personality into a game, but not disenfranchising a whole set of people who might otherwise buy it."
He added: "I don't think it's about sacrificing the Britishness. It's about working out with a publisher what's the characteristic and personality of the game. Every good game should have a personality. When you play it you should feel from the way it plays and the way it looks what it is you're playing, otherwise you can get a very mediocre product."
Following a recent spate of rumours concerning the highly-anticipated fifth instalment in the Hitman franchise, series developers iO Interactive have today denied that there is any truth to the gossip. Directly in the firing-line is some recent artwork, which had surfaced last week and taken as genuine confirmation that a fifth Hitman game is in the works. Not so, according to iO Interactive.
“The recent 'leak' of artwork for a new Hitman game is fake.” Stated a representative of iO Interactive on the developer’s official Twitter feed. “47 doesn't have a beard, dude.”
The developer linked to the blog of the artist responsible, who has taken quite some pride from the fact that many unknowing website took his artwork as genuine. The artist’s blog, “Reqos Blog” can be found at http://www.gamereactor.se/blog/reqo/177479/. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest from iO Interactive, including details on that potential fifth Hitman title.
Shinji Mikami’s new studio Tango Gameworks is developing something for Zenimax to publish, but they haven’t revealed any details about their project. Maybe this art work is a clue?
These illustrations were drawn by a O-sensei (tagged as "teacher-o") and shared on the Tango Gameworks blog. Any idea what these peculiar looking bugs and ghastly creatures could be?
Xbox 360 may be king when it comes to the arcade shooter, but PlayStation 3 owners are getting in on just a bit of the fun.
Cyber Front announced today a PlayStation 3 version of 2008 arcade shooter Mamorukun wa Nowareteshimatta. The PS3 version, which follows a 2009 Xbox 360 port (released through G.rev), will be titled Mamorukun wa Nowareteshimatta: Meikai Katsugeki Wide Version.
The PlayStation 3 version offers full HD wide screen support, two Xbox 360 download characters included from the stat for free, and a new "Meikai Katsugeki Mode." A retail release is set for March.
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood game director Patrick Plourde has told GamesRadar that co-op will come to the series “eventually”.
This year’s title, a direct sequel to ACII, has multiplayer, a first for the series. But co-op is something that will “definitely” be looked at in the future.
“I think eventually there will definitely be co-op in the brand,” said Plourde at a recent event for the game in Montreal.
“For this one, we focused first and foremost on the validation for multiplayer – and the templar angle was interesting. In campaign, co-op comes with a lot of challenge.
“At GDC the Saint’s Row guys were like: ‘if you want your game to have co-op – especially in a sandbox – you need to build it from the ground up.’ They’re right – it’s a couple of years of turnaround to make sure co-op would work.”
Plourde added: “With Brotherhood we were expanding the brand, but we also have the quiet confidence that we’re successful enough to take our time. That’s super liberating – we have great ideas, but we can put some of them on the backburner for the time being then – next time round – revisit some of those old ideas.”
Eurogamer: You say there will be an arcade NFS game every year in November, but next year's game won't be developed by Criterion. Is it Black Box?
Patrick Soderlund: You can assume that, yes.
Eurogamer: Safely assume?
Patrick Soderlund: Yes. I would say so, yes.
Battlefield 3 is coming. And its reveal isn’t too far out if comments from EA Games Europe VP Patrick Soderlund are a pointer.
“It’s going well,” he told Eurogamer in an interview when asked about its development.
“I’m very happy with what we have and I’m really excited about showing it to the world because we have something that is going to be very, very cool.”
When asked we’d see it, Soderlund added: “You’ll see. You’ll know probably sooner than I will. You are going to be able to see it in the not too distant future. The marketing guys would kill me if I told you when.”
EA told VG247 back in August it was willing to give developer DICE all the space it needs to create the shooter, saying it doesn’t want to disturb the Swedish studio with “marketing and PR.”
A beta of the shooter, included within copies of Medal of Honor, is due to kick off within the next year for PS3, 360 and PC.
Soderlund talked to Joe Anderson about EA’s attempts to revive Need for Speed with Criterion’s Hot Pursuit. Get that and his hands-on of the racer here.
Sega's top brass have acknowledged the overwhelming reader response to CVG's 'Would you buy Shenmue 3?' feature - and told fans that their dream may not be dead yet.
Our 'Debate' article generated over 100 comments from readers earlier this month - with many more on CVG's Facebook page and around the web.
Nearly all responses were positive. Only 777's post summed up the mood: "I would buy Shenmue 3 even if it cost me my soul."
The president of Sega West, Mike Hayes, noted the reaction. He told CVG:
"While at present we have no plans for the franchise [on next-gen consoles], the response to CVG's question has certainly shown the Shenmue legacy ignites a lot of passion among fans. Never say never..."
So there you have it. There is a light, and it never goes out.
Meanwhile, Sega is preparing a new Shenmue for iPhone and PC.
Shenmue City will act as a 'side-story' to the original Dreamcast classic. It will be free-to-play, with in-game items to buy.
Sega is yet to slap a release date on the title - or hint that it will ever make its way outside of Japan.
NIS America has announced that four of their PSP games will be available to the European PlayStation Store exclusively, whilst PS3 RPG Hyperdimension Neptunia is also on the way.
First up and arriving tomorrow is Z.H.P.: Unlosing Ranger VS. Darkdeath Evilman a superhero themed RPG, that allows you to personalize the protagonists appearance. The game also features randomly generated maps and a Customizable base system.
Cladun: This is an RPG! is set to arrive in mid November. It’s a dungeon crawler in the retro mould and has randomly generated dungeons and a multiplayer co-op feature. A big hook will be the opportunity to knock up a character from scratch with the implemented pixel editor.
Also arriving some time in mid November is Disgaea infinite, a visual novel. It stars a Prinny who can possess characters for clues and to use them as transportation.
Finally, at an unspecified point in December comes Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood!. Just like the original, it’s a side-scrolling platformer where you take charge of NIS’ mascot, a Prinny who this time around is tasked with finding Disgaea favourite, Etna’s stolen underwear, a typically outlandish premise for anything related to Disgaea.
Spring next year sees the release of PS3 title Hyperdimension Neptunia. It’s an RPG, and is about, of all things, consoles that takes the form of humans that are taking on piracy. You can customize them, of which has a bearing on their stats and appearances. Combos can also be created and a summon ability allows you to summon iconic characters from other games as well as your own images.
