Namco Bandai’s just launched a new teaser site for what community manager Rich Bantegui “guarantees” will excite its fans once it’s solved.
“To start off the week, We’ve created a great puzzle for you to solve that will lead to something I GUARANTEE that you will be excited about,” Bantegui wrote on Namco Bandai’s Facebook page. “The puzzle is hard, but I will be giving out clues and hints to help you along. Stay Tuned for more.”
The site in question can be found here. Currently, all we see are a bunch of glyphs and images, whose meaning we cannot decipher. The title of the page is “:[P”.
Considering Namco Bandai’s fan page is filled with nothing but Tales requests, we’re predicting Namco Bandai is finally fulfilling the fans’ requests. Let’s hope for the best.
2K Czech may be getting ready to begin development on a third Mafia game, if a recent job listing is anything to go by.
Posted on Saturday in search of a senior game designer, the listing from the Brno-based studio asks for experience creating an “AAA console action game as a designer”, adding the responsibility of producing “designs for game systems and mechanics for the open world city environment.”
With all three Mafia II additional content packs released, the “AAA console action game” and “open world city environment” quotes can only point to one thing for us: Mafia III.
After five years in development Mafia II launched back in August last year, and although it hit with mixed reviews, it topped the UK charts in its first week at retail. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see another instalment on the way soon.
A recent job listing from Avalanche Studios may reveal the developer to be working on a downloadable instalment to the Just Cause franchise.
Posted on Sunday, the Art Director listing reveals is “is currently in development of two projects based on very well-known licenses and a XBLA/PSN project based on an Avalanche Studios original IP."
It was already known that the Swedish developer is working on multiple projects, including one based on a major Hollywood license. This reveal of a downloadable title however, has got us thinking Rico Rodriguez could soon be hitting the PlayStation Network and XBLA.
The other possibility for this is The Hunter, which Avalanche launched on PC back in 2009, but being realistic we can’t see it happening.
Keep your eyes peeled for this one.

Bethesda PR boss Peter Hines has confirmed to VG247 that other Bethesda Game Studios projects will “take advantage” of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s new Creation Engine.
Skyrim marks the first time a new engine has been used in the series since Gamebryo in Oblivion. Bethesda retained the engine, which was heavily criticised by gamers, for Fallout 3 and Obsidian’s Fallout: New Vegas.
But Hines told us that the Skyrim tech will be used for whatever Todd Howard and his team make next after Skyrim, meaning the chances of it being used for Fallout 4 are pretty high.
“Yeah, I mean obviously, whatever Bethesda Game Studios works on after Skyrim will take advantage of the tech that they have developed,” he said to us in a phone interview last week.
Hines continued: “But what that next product is or what it’s going to be? Everybody’s gonna have to wait and see.
“Right now, it’s been used for Skyrim and that’s what our focus is on. We aren’t saying what they’re going to work on next.”

Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi has told Famitsu that the publisher will announce two big games by this summer.
Furthermore, he told the mag that both games will be out in 2011, with Takeuchi adding that the titles would be a surprise.
Speculation is pointing to a Resident Evil 6 reveal at E3 in June, but the dev boss mentioned the games would be original.
Last year, Capcom took the opportunity to announce a handful of new titles at Tokyo Game Show, one of which was original: Asura’s Wrath from CyberConnect 2. The others were Devil May Cry reboot DMC from Ninja Theory and Dead Rising 2 downloadable epilogue Case West.
E3 takes place between June 7-9 in Los Angeles.
Crytek has told CVG that it fully intends to make Crysis 3, and that it already has a plan for how the series' story will progress.
However, the studio admits that the chances of a third game in the FPS series making it to market depend on the success of Crysis 2, which hits stores in March.
Asked if the studio has Crysis mapped out as a trilogy, or as an even bigger story, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said:
"We definitely want to make Crysis 3. I'm not making a formal announcement. We'd like to make Crysis 3 but the second game needs to be successful first. I will mention that there is a plan for how the fiction of Crysis should roll out, but again, it depends on the success of Crysis 2.
"If it doesn't meet our goals for whatever reason and doesn't even break even then there may not be a Crysis 3," he added. "But if it sells anywhere near what [Call of Duty] Black Ops has, there may be more from Crysis."
Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios will announce its closely guarded PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade project in a month, Eurogamer can reveal.
The Stockholm developer is currently working on three unannounced games: a PSN/XBLA title based on "an Avalanche Studios original IP", and two projects based on "very well-known licenses".
One of the projects based on a well-known license is understood to be an action game based on the upcoming flick Mad Max 4: Fury Road. God of War II director and writer Cory Barlog is thought to be spearheading development.
Don't hold your breath for a Mad Max reveal, however. According to the Internet Movie Database Fury Road will be released in 2012. Development of the game itself was confirmed in March 2008.
"Our XBLA/PSN project will be announced in a month or so, but the other two projects will not be announced in the near future," Avalanche founder and original concept creator of Just Cause Christofer Sundberg told Eurogamer.
Avalanche, which has signed with an un-named publisher for the downloadable game, is known for its open-world action series Just Cause.
The third day of Namco Bandai’s mysterious teaser site has gone live, this time with a change of focus. We can clearly see a big ‘T’ on the left of the image now; most likely the ‘T’ from the Tekken logo.
The date, February 2, 2011, still remains on the left side. On the right side, however, we see the word ‘Ten’ (or ‘Ken,’ or ‘Yen’). Make of that what you will.
We’re guessing Namco Bandai is preparing multiple new game announcements for February 2. We know Tales of Graces F is one of them, and something Tekken may just be another, but are more in the pipeline? Community manager, Rich Bantegui teases “lots of action” and “lots of news” to come.
Despite poor sales from the first game, Namco Bandai marketing director Lee Kirton has said that Enslaved may yet still develop into a franchise.
The first title, Odyssey to the West, released last October on PS3 and 360 to low sales. But its critical reception from media and gamers may yet see the Ninja Theory IP expand.
“It didn’t perform as well as we hoped it would, but we’re very proud of how it was received by both the media and the gamers who have experienced it,” Kirton told MCV.
“I can’t discuss where we are in terms of a sequel, but we’re looking at reviews and feedback from the press, and because of the gameplay and quality that Enslaved delivered, we see it as a great catalogue title going forward.”
Ninja Theory was hiring for positions last year to work on a new game alongside its current project, a reboot of Capcom’s Devil May Cry franchise.
All indications at the time pointed to an Enslaved 2.
According to an AICN report, a videogame adaptation of The Dark Tower is in the works and will appear alongside the movie’s supposed May 2013 release.
The report says that the game on the IP, based on the Stephen King novels, is “being planned that will further utilize elements from the books”.
There’s no word yet as to who, if anyone, could publish the title. Or who’s making it. Or anything else, for that matter.
I am proud to share some exciting news with you about our new game Chime Super Deluxe, which will be available to download soon from PSN. Chime Super Deluxe is a unique and addictive block puzzle game featuring an innovative music creation element. Players must cover a number of different grids with irregular shapes to form rectangular blocks called “quads.” Every shape and quad generates musical notes and phrases. As the grid is gradually covered, the song builds up in the background.
Working their way towards that elusive 100% coverage, players create a unique remix of the music every time they play. Its a very simple game mechanic idea but one that provides captivating and mesmerizing gameplay that will feed your aural senses like nothing else before.
“So what about the music?” I hear you ask. Well, we have a fantastic line up of music artists in the game who have allowed us to play around with their music tracks so that we can create this unique puzzle experience for you. The game comes with 10 music tracks and playable grids at launch and we can reveal 5 of these now. The other artists and tracks created exclusively for Chime Super Deluxe will be announced at a later date so keep checking back to the PlayStation.Blog for more details as we make them available.
The first five artist tracks are:
“Ooh Yeah” – Moby
“Spilled Cranberries” – Markus Schulz
“Brazil” – Philip Glass
“For Silence” – Paul Hartnoll (Orbital)
“Disco Ghosts” – Fred Deakin (Lemon Jelly)
Chime Super Deluxe also supports two multiplayer modes which will allow players to “Chime” together, but more on how that works in a later post. We really can’t wait for you to play the game, which we think is easy to play but hard to master…having said that, we are sure that you will be spending hours trying to do just that!
We will have lots of competitions for you to enter so please be sure to visit the website, http://www.chimegame.com, ‘Like’ us on our Facebook page or follow the Zoe Mode studio on Twitter.
We promise to reveal more on the game very soon and announce the release date, but for now please enjoy our new teaser trailer which will hopefully intrigue you even more!
The dates for QuakeCon 2011 are in. The event takes place in August, from 4th-7th, in Dallas, Texas - where limousines are fronted by bull horns.
QuakeCon used to be a place for id Software-related celebrations that usually involved huge old-school LAN parties, i.e. bring your own computer, plug it in and play an hours-long game of Quake.
That essence still remains, but there's a lot more going on now id Software is owned by ZeniMax - parent company of Bethesda.
In August, Bethesda will still have Rage, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Doom 4 to release. Brink and Hunted will have been on shop shelves long before.
Sony Online Entertainment has announced a line-up of new titles for the PSN, including Plants vs. Zombies, Acceleration of Suguri X Edition, Slam Bolt Scrappers, Akimi Village, Sideway, and Rochard.
Plants vs. Zombies is slated for release on PSN next month.
Acceleration of Suguri X Edition is an anime-style robot-fighting game where players take on the role of a scorned robot to maneuver through arcade storylines and battle other robots.
Slam Bolt Scrappers, developed by Fire Hose Games, is a “building and brawling mash-up,” where players construct towers in Slam Bolt City while defending against enemies and bosses. It’s out in March.
Akimi Village from NinjaBee, has players obtaining blueprints, gathering resources and constructing a village to help rid Akimi Island of its gloom. No date was provided.
Sideway is set in New York City’s “gritty art culture,” scene and follows the adventures of Nox. He’s a 2D “rebellious young artist,” who must navigate 3D urban streets. It’s out in the spring.
Rochard is about the “gravity-bending exploits of space miner John Rochard as he discovers the first proof of extra-terrestrial life.” Developed by Recoil Games, Rochard combines space exploration and puzzle-solving in a side-scrolling, single-player experience. No date just yet.
Crytek boss Cervat Yerli has told CVG that the company is “discussing” the possibility of developing TimeSplitters 4.
“Yeah, we have been discussing it, but nothing has been confirmed yet, so let’s see after Crysis 2,” he said.
Crytek bought out original developer Free Radical in 2009 after it went into administration. But Yerli says he is “very confident” about the team, rebranded Crytek UK, helping to push Crysis 2, which it has developed on the multiplayer side, into a Meta 90.
“I love working with our UK friends,” Yerli said. “The team has been performing up to the quality bar easily. Our thinking was that the team had done 80-85 rated games, and we thought that with the right technology, IP and global IP direction they could reach the 90 barrier. I’m very confident that they can do that.”
The last heard on a possibile TS4 was when Crytek UK boss Karl Hilton said last year that it was “talking to publishers” about it.
Namco Bandai closed off its week of updates with day four of its mysterious teaser website, ‘A Tale of Two Richards‘. Today, it looks like they’re teasing something Galaga-related. On the site, you’ll find little Galaga ships and enemies floating about the distortion.
The site’s already seen teasers for Tales, Pac-Man, and Tekken. The teasers should end on February 2. As for now, we wait and wonder what Namco Bandai has in store.
Kotaku’s rumouring that the inevitable future need to cloud-save PlayStation games will be a subs-only feature.Sony has now apparently told developers to prepare for cloud-saving, meaning that PlayStation platform games further down the road will synch progress no matter if you’re playing them on PS3, NGP, and Android device or whatever else.As the system is to apparently be a premium service, and it will “allow save data with the copy prohibited attribute to be copied into the online storage,” developers will be able to opt out of using it.This is pretty obvious for another reason: not all games will be cross-platform.Sony will supposedly call the process “Online Saving”, and it’ll be made available as part of the PS3’s upcoming 3.60 firmware update.
The March 2011 issue of Game Informer (on newsstands February 14) features an exclusive interview with Oddworld Inhabitants president and co-founder, Lorne Lanning, who reveals that there’s more than just one high-definition remake from the Oddworld franchise in development.
“Abe HD is going into production. It’s basically Abe’s Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer,” Lanning told the magazine. “So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It’s like, ‘Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?’”

Sony's given us a rare peek behind the curtain at why we won't see certain PSone Classics come to PSN.
Sony Europe PS Store boss Ross McGrath outlines the problems faced by the platform holder - including why certain titles make it to the US but not Europe and what the company is trying to do about it.
Often a title can't be released for legal reasons - either that or it's riddled with bugs, according to McGrath.
"When I say bugs, I mean giant cockroach sized uber-bugs," he admits on the EU PS Blog.
"I have seen a lot of PSone QA reports with some weird and wonderful errors - menu screens with upside down text, explosions that kill your character at random after watching a cut scene, games that continue to slow down the longer you play them, or music that sounds like it's coming from the bottom of a well... the list goes on."
"If a bug makes the game completely unplayable or otherwise ruins your experience then that's a fail and the game cannot be published."
Apparently this can determine whether a game doesn't make the cut or whether it only features in the US because the glitches are only present in the PAL version.
We're reassured though that Sony do keep trying to obtain the legal rights to release those elusive titles or get them through QA successfully.
We Europeans are sometimes left wanting when it comes to PSone Classics, with our friends over the pond getting titles well before us, but at least we're being kept in the loop.
Company CEO, Ryoei Mikage, wrote on Twitter that he’d met with a major publisher today to show off a new prototype. The prototype was approved and will move into full production. According to Mikage, it’s an HD role-playing game due to release sometime between Fall and Winter of 2012.
Polish outfit City Interactive has at least three projects on the go and two of them have been spilled as a WWII shooter and a sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior.
Now the third game in the works is called Alien Fear from developer Farm 51. It's a sci-fi shooter and it likely uses the Unreal Engine 3, not CryEngine 3.
Farm 51 created Necrovision and also helped out on RPG Two Worlds II. The studio revealed they've signed with City Interactive and then announced their Alien Fear game. It's coming to PC as well as other platforms.
The sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior and the WWII shooter are using Crytek's new fancy CryEngine 3 tech. City Interactive said back in December that one of their projects in the pipe will be using Unreal Engine 3 for its foundations - most likely Alien Fear.
