Gracias por la subidita.
And here we are. This is the moment which many of you have been waiting for in suspense.
It’s about the physics, guys. It’s about going full throttle, it’s about the sensations you’ll have racing in SBK®X, it’s about how good you feel when you are speeding your bike.
Are you sure you’re ready? There will be a lot of bombs, this post is like Superbike, it’s not suitable for faint-of-heart!!!
ADRENALINE RUSHING ARCADE MODE + ACCURATE SIMULATION = XWell, let’s remove any doubts… SBK®X has two souls: an extra exaggerated Arcade for having fun coin-op style and an accurate simulation to make even the “King” SBK2001 jealous.
ARCADE MODE – SHIVERS AT 300KM PER HOUR WITHOUT THE FEAR OF FALLINGThis year we are proud to have developed a completely new Arcade mode that we have never had in the previous games: it’s perfect for having fun with extreme manoeuvres in pursuit of fun, it’s very easy to handle but it’s rather challenging for winning the best challengers.
We said to ourselves: why should we favour only one play mode (arcade or simulative), surely displeasing a lot of people or, even worse, creating a hybrid which is worthless?
Compared to last year when we added some riding aids to the simulative mode, this year the code of the Arcade physics is totally different from the code of the Sim physics. We’ve rebuilt everything creating a bike which has great grip but which drifts in the turns. All this allows spectacular manoeuvres and extreme overtakings at 300km per hour. We thought about something which makes the game more strategic: thanks to the “boost button”, it’s possible to gather speed ploughing air much better. But when the rider is in this position, it’s impossible to completely lean the bike because leaning angle is reduced. This action becomes strategic, when you discover that it’s necessary to use it as soon as possible between one turn and another.
SIMULATION – YOU’LL FIND EVERYTHING YOU WANTED IN SBK X!And now, let’s talk about the simulation.
Introduction: it’s useless to beat about the bush. Will SBK®X make you forget the “King” SBK2001? The answer is yes and we’ll explain why.
First of all, let us introduce ourselves. This year there are 5 people exclusively dedicated to the development of the physics: Enrico, programmer of the Simulation Physics who rides a GSX-R 600; Emanuele, designer with a Yamaha R6; Simone, fanatic of car racing and motorbike racing; me, producer and designer, with a GSX-R 600 SRAD (yes, the one from the SBK®X Legends) and Stefano Lecchi, programmer of the SBK 2001 physics.
Did you faint or I can proceed?
SBK®X – ANATOMY OF A SIMULATIONSo, we know a lot about the bikes. We love them, we ride them, we play with them in games and we work on them. And indeed I feel a sigh of relief coming from the crowd. We also know a lot about videogames and about Superbike: we have been following the development of the new SBK® videogame series since 2006. We talked with track engineers and with riders, we read dozens of forums (many of you know us), we saved your feedback and ran Playtesting sessions.
But I have kept you with bated breath for too long. First of all, I’ll drop you a bomb: we rebuilt the code that manages the bike accordingly to your requests and your advice and we opted for both realism and playability. Let’s see in more detail how we get to the maximum level of realism (it’s possible to choose between three levels, I’ll explain later):
- Lean: totally rebuilt, you can feel the weight of the bike better. It’s possible to lean it where you want and there is a good feeling with the front wheel entering in the turn and passing through it.
- Brake: the chassis is put under stress when you exaggerate during hard braking. Yes, you read right: pay attention when you are braking because the bike will begin to weave and it will be pretty hard to keep it straight. If you pull the front brake the bike slows down and it weaves: the back brake is not crucial but it helps stabilize the bike when you enter the turn. When you play in full simulation, you can forget tightening the trajectory or performing a better lap by pulling the front brake: the gyroscopic inertia will turn up the bike.
- Steer geometry: with new leaning management, you’ll force the bike to lean thanks to the countersteering of the handlebar. The front wheel will turn slightly to the opposite side of the turn and then it will stabilize.
- Throttle management: beautiful beasts, these 220 hp Superbikes with fantastic chassis! Pay attention when you exit narrow corners or when you exaggerate with throttle, you’ll be shot out. Feel the thrill to lean at maximum passing through the long turn and to accelerate trustfully thanks to the smooth suspension and to the tyres which work perfectly making you feel the lateral and longitudinal G-Forces
- Chassis, shock springs and tyres: everything was rebuilt as well. Springs and shock absorbers work perfectly in order to keep the contact with the tarmac, making you feel the asperity of the track and communicating directly into your hands all the bike’s behaviours.
SBK®X – THREE SIMULATION LEVELS TO FIND YOUR SWEET SPOTCompared to the previous editions, the bike feels more realistic and fun to tame: realism has increased, but it’s easier to find yourself at ease with the bike, thanks to a perfect balancing that sets a great feeling between the player, the controller and the bike.
Furthermore, I tell you that in addition to the Arcade Mode, we also have three simulation levels: LOW, MEDIUM and FULL SIMULATION. Base and Medium levels help the beginners to get close to the world of riding simulations. The bike keeps a credible behaviour, but dangers are reduced a lot.. You can exaggerate with throttle and braking without falling (even in corners), as well as riding on the grass without being thrown away from the bike. Riding is fast paced, with wobbling, weaving and accurate physics-based behaviours, but every status is manageable even by beginners.
