Radical Entertainment’s built a solid reputation as a sandbox game developer emphasizing more on all-out fun and enjoyment than rote missions and repetition. Their latest title, Prototype, has proved that to a T and come out a great success, even against more hyped titles like inFamous and veteran franchises like Red Faction. It seems we haven’t seen the last of our friendly neighbourhood sociopath Alex Mercer just yet.
A profile listing for a Designer at Radical Entertainment Malcolm Wilson, who previously worked as a Mission/Events Designer for Prototype, shows that the company has been busy developing an “unannounced project” for the past 6 months.
Looking closely, you’ll notice work began on this “unannounced project” shortly after he finished work on Prototype. Also, that the word “project” has been used and not “IP” (which may indicate a brand new intellectual property/franchise) could mean a possible sequel.
Anomalies? Definitely. Firstly, work officially finished on Prototype around May or so. Wilson could have very well finished with his role and play-testing underway in those next few months between January and May 2009. However, there’s also this:
Radical Entertainment has another “unannounced project”, for which Wilson held the very same role as he foes for the current one (designer). It’s entirely possible that work halted on that project so the company’s resources could be devoted to finishing Prototype, and that Wilson had gone back to work on the same.
It’s not wholly confirmed just what Radical may be working on. However, with Prototype being one of the surprisingly great games of 2009, alongside Batman: Arkham Asylum and Shadow Complex, and Alex’s fate left open in the original, it’s not too far-fetched a notion either. Stay tuned for more.
