Rodney Gray, 43, is accused of theft of property worth $60,000 or more.
According to a police affidavit, a Technicolor security worker reported the theft of games for Microsoft Xbox 360 and DVDs on Wednesday.
The games, which included “Gears of War II” and “Fable II,” haven’t been released to the public. Neither have some of the missing DVDs.
An investigation led detectives to Gray’s room at the InTown Suites, 3533 Hickory Hill. They watched him get into a Chevrolet HHR with a red bag, then pulled him over for several outstanding driving offenses, according to the affidavit.
They found 31 games in the bag.
Detectives took him back to the inn, where they found numerous games and DVDs scattered throughout his room.
Gray told investigators he works at Technicolor and that he’d been selling the stolen games and movies.
A Microsoft representative estimated each pre-release game’s value at $1,000.
Gray is being held on $30,000 bond. He’s also charged with driving on a suspended license.
A Technicolor representative in Memphis was unable to immediately provide more details this morning.
