Asi lo tengo y el log esta puesto en el mensaje anterior al tuyo.
Ya ves tu lo que tiene... y funciona perfecto. Copialo a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d y mira a ver que pasa... si no como te han dicho antes, pon el log del Xorg que seguro sale algo ahi.

Si quieres, prueba en una máquina virtual primero para ver cómo es. No tiene mucho misterio, te lleva a un programa en el que puedes hacer particiones y demás, sólo tienes que saber cómo tienes las particiones para no tocar la de windows y hacer las que necesites. Después tendrás que elegir el punto de montaje de las particiones y elegir si formatearlas o no.
Aún a malas puedes hacer las particiones antes y saltarte el paso de particionar e ir directamente a elegir puntos de montaje.

Ocurrieron errores, no se actualizaron paquetes
Debo añadir (ya que estoy casi seguro de que esa es la causa) que los drivers wireless no vienen integrados en el kernel, y hay que compilarlos y copiar 2 archivos a dos lugares concretos, uno a /lib/firmware y otro a /lib/modules/{TUKERNEL}/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
He probado a borrar el segundo e instalar, ya que el error lo marca en /lib/modules, pero nada... ¿alguna idea?

Supongo que en no mucho tiempo, Arch lanzará la versión 2.6.35 del kernel, y me corroe una duda... voy a tener que recompilar el driver y volver a copiar el archivo a la carpeta del kernel o el propio SO cuando se actualice moverá el archivo de la antigua a la nueva?

de todas maneras, tampoco es que me consuma excesivamente el mplayer, en ningún caso supera el 40% de cpu... eso si con un p8700, aunque limitado a 1600mhz, casi el mismo uso de cpu que para videos en flash, o leer el marca antes de quitar toda la publicidad que hay en flash, xdd
